Former South African skipper Faf du Plessis astonished fans by grabbing a stunning one-handed catch, during a 2025 Major League Cricket encounter. The 40-year-old defied age, in a match between his side Texas Super Kings and MI New York.
Faf du Plessis-led Texas Super Kings faced off against MI New York in the second match of the ongoing 2025 MLC season, at the Oakland Coliseum in California. TSK, batting first, put up a total of 185 runs on the board. Although the 186-run target was considerably lower than what San Francisco Unicorns had posted at the same venue in the season opener, it proved sufficient for TSK to secure a three-run victory.
For the Men in Yellow, only two batters managed to score past the 20-run mark. Devon Conway scored 65 runs off 44 balls, hitting two fours and five sixes, while all-rounder Calvin Savage scored an unbeaten 53 off 34 deliveries. In response, MINY managed to score 182 runs in their 20 overs, falling three runs short of the target. For TSK, Adam Milne returned with impressive figures for 3 for 22 in his four-over spell.
MINY appeared confident enough to chase down the target, despite losing both openers Agni Chopra and Quinton de Kock within the first three overs. Monank Patel and Michael Bracewell’s 97-run fourth-wicket managed to put MINY in a strong position. However, Bracewell’s wicket in the 14th over by Adam Milne proved to be the turning point, shifting the momentum towards TSK. None of MINY’s lower-order batters, including veteran Kieron Pollard, could then steer the team to victory.
Bracewell’s wicket was the talking point of the game, as Texas Super Kings’ skipper Faf du Plessis took a one-handed stunner to dismiss the New Zealand all-rounder. Off the slower in the second ball of the over, Bracewell played a flat-batted lofted shot over mid-off. While it seemed well out of du Plessis’ reach, he however, plunged to his right and grabbed the ball in time to complete an exceptional one-handed catch.

Bracewell, who was looking dangerous, and had already hit three fours and two sixes in his 38-run innings, had to walk back into the pavilion. Meanwhile, defying age barriers, Faf du Plessis showed off his remarkable agility and fitness. Not just in the MLC, the 40-year-old ex-South African skipper, has been equally impressive on the ground, while playing in other cricket leagues across the world.

During the 2025 SA20 season, Faf du Plessis demonstrated his fielding brilliance with a gravity-defying catch at deep-cover near the boundary in the eliminator. Coming back to the MLC, against MINY, he took another catch, dismissing his fellow countryman Quinton de Kock in the fourth over, similarly at mid-off.
Finn Allen’s Record-Breaking 150-Run Knock Sets MLC Alight for San Francisco Unicorns
New Zealand opener Finn Allen set the 2025 MLC season on fire, with a record breaking 151-run knock off just 51 deliveries for San Francisco Unicorns, against defending champions Washington Freedom. Allen helped the team post a massive first innings total of 296 runs.

The 26-year-old, at the Oakland Coliseum in California, scored 151 runs, hitting five fours and 19 sixes, at a strike-rate of 296.08. He broke several records in the process, including the most sixes in a T20 match, the fastest 150 in T20 cricket, and the highest individual score in the MLC. Finn Allen’s exceptional batting, helped the Unicorns secure a commanding 123-run victory, against Freedom.
