Jannik Sinner wants to follow in the footsteps of “legends” to have a long tennis career. The legends here perhaps are none other than the Big 3- Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer, who enjoyed successful careers that spanned over two decades.

Darren Cahill was the guest in Andy Roddick‘s latest Served podcast. He shed light on various topics about his protege, one of which was about his retirement plans. Sinner doesn’t plan to hang up his racket before turning 37 or 38.

He wants to get out there and play for the next 15 years. He can see himself playing when he’s 37, or 38 years of age. I don’t know about you, but I couldn’t do that when I was playing.

While Sinner is expected to have a bright future, Cahill will be retiring from coaching. The Aussie, who joined Sinner’s team in 2022, will not be with the 23-year-old after this season.

I was trying to make it to the 30s and I didn’t even get it that long in my career, but these guys have a different perspective now about how long a tennis career could be because of the legends that have just played and extended their careers for so long and had so much success.

Darren Cahill added

Under Cahill, and not to forget coach Simone Vagnozzi (who also joined his team in 2022), Sinner not only became a three-time Grand Slam champion but also reached the top of the rankings as well as clinched last year’s ATP Finals title. Vagnozzi, in a recent interview, revealed that he was trying to convince Cahill to stay in the entourage.

Taylor Fritz claims Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are motivating other players on the tour

Taylor Fritz acknowledged that Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are way ahead if compared to other players on the tour. Novak Djokovic, the only active member of the legendary Big 3 yet to hang up his racket, is struggling to play consistently.

Sinner and Alcaraz have denied him success in Grand Slam events as the two young rivals have lifted the last six Grand Slam titles, including this year’s Australian Open (Sinner won) and the French Open (Alcaraz won by beating Sinner). It was Fritz whom Sinner defeated without breaking any sweat in last year’s US Open final. Later, Sinner again went past the American ace, this time, to win the ATP Finals.

They’re showing time and time again that they’re just a level above right now, and everyone else is going to have to catch up. But I think it’s motivating for a lot of us to see that level and know what we have to compete against and what we have to work towards.

Taylor Fritz told Tennis Channel

Fritz clinched only one win in his five matches against Sinner (when they first met in the 2021 Indian Wells Masters). Against Alcaraz, Fritz has lost the two matches he played against him.

Fritz recently lifted the Stuttgart Open title by beating Alexander Zverev. He entered the Queen’s Club Championships to bid for his fifth grass-court title but was defeated by Corentin Moutet in the first round.

Alcaraz, on the other hand, went past Adam Walton in the first round and has scheduled a second-round clash with compatriot Jaume Munar. The five-time Grand Slam champion, who beat Sinner in this year’s Italian Open and the French Open finals, is aiming to win his fourth title on grass.

Following their respective tournaments, Alcaraz and Sinner will be gearing up for Wimbledon where the former will be entering as the two-time defending champion. Since Sinner and Alcaraz will be the first and second seeds, respectively, they will only meet if they both progress to the final.

Sinner has never advanced to the final in the grass-court Major. He was the semifinalist in 2023 and was defeated in the quarterfinals by Daniil Medvedev last year.
