Caitlin Clark, WNBA. The world of women’s basketball has been energized by these three words, and not in the way you might anticipate. Clark, a guard with the Indiana Fever, has been the focus of a league-wide uproar in recent weeks due to her excellent play as well as the real and metaphorical elbows she consistently receives.

Now, many have led the narrative that Clark has been a victim of jealousy from her fellow rivals in and around the WNBA. The Chicago Bulls’ announcer, Stacey King, also agreed with this on X lately but was dealt with a pushback on his words by WNBA insider Sarah Spain. She replied to King on X, requesting the Bulls’ announcer to not ‘spread fake rumors.’

Now, instead of King agreeing or taking his words back after Spain’s post on X, he did the exact opposite. The Bulls’ announcer maintained his stance on Clark, once again replying to Spain’s post on X.

I call it the way I see it! My question to you then Sarah what do you call it? Anyone who watches her play can see she’s not liked but some of the girls in the WNBA and why is that? It’s because she’s very good and has garnered so much attention from day 1 and some people resent her for that reason. But there’s no debate love her or not she’s must watch tv for the WNBA!!

Stacey King replied

Even though she was the one targeted in the altercation, Clark was shoved to the ground, had her eye poked, and received a technical foul during a recent game between the Fever and the Connecticut Sun.
There was more than one instance of the physicality. It was the most recent of an increasing number of violent plays directed at Clark.

Some observers believe that the problem is a result of both Clark’s soaring popularity and her amazing skills. With record TV ratings, sold-out venues, and headline after headline, Clark has virtually instantly become the WNBA’s face. However, not everyone in the league has embraced that sudden stardom.

This has led to immense jealousy and hatred towards the Fever star, something that King pinpointed on his X account. Another prime example is the WNBA’s officiating during Clark and the Fever’s games, with many decisions going against her regularly.

Valkyries HC Natalie Nakase spoke glowingly about Caitlin Clark

The Indiana Fever lost to the Golden State Valkyries, the league’s latest expansion team that started play this season, losing in the finals and falling one step short of the 2025 WNBA Commissioner’s Cup. Most importantly, the Valkyries were successful in stopping the Fever’s star player, Caitlin Clark, thanks to the schemes and coaching of head coach Natalie Nakase.

Nakase revealed her blueprint on how she managed to contain Clark in the Cup final game after the win:

We were being disruptive. We know she doesn’t like physicality, and we know she wants to get back to that left step-back. I watched her in Iowa. She loves that left [step-back].

Natalie Nakase said

Clark had nine assists, seven rebounds, one steal, and eleven points on 3-of-14 shooting at the end of the game, including 0-of-7 from beyond the 3-point line. After 34 minutes of court time, Clark completed the game with a minus-10 after turning the ball over six times. After the defeat, Indiana’s season record dropped to 6-6.

Interim Fever HC takes responsibility for the Finals Cup loss amidst Caitlin Clark’s poor showing

The Golden State Valkyries were not messing around against the Fever in the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup. They had their tactics set out right from the whistle blew: defending Caitlin Clark with all their will, and they did. Notably, the interim Fever HC, Austin Kelly did not blame anyone for the loss but himself during the post-match press conference.

We turned the ball over five times in the first six or seven possessions. We had eight turnovers in the third quarter. That kills you when you’re trying to extend a lead.

Kelly has stressed the need for greater transparency and tactical consistency since taking over the team. The Fever’s problems were made clear by their defeat against Golden State, as they ended their match with 17 turnovers, including six from star player Caitlin Clark. It remains to be seen how the Fever bounce back from this.
