In a lighthearted moment following the Halle Open final, Daniil Medvedev jokingly wished that Alexander Bublik would face tough opponents at Wimbledon. With a smile, he suggested Bublik be placed in the same section as Carlos Alcaraz or Jannik Sinner. The friendly remark brought humor to an otherwise intense finale and showed the mutual respect between the two players.

Earlier that day, Bublik stunned the tennis world by defeating top-seeded Medvedev to claim his second Halle Open title. The straight-sets win marked a major upset and capped off a brilliant tournament for the Kazakh star. It was also his first victory in seven meetings against Medvedev. He said in his post-match interview:

First of all Sasha, big congrats to you and your team. I hope you’re in Carlos’ draw at Wimbledon.. Please Carlos or Jannik draw at Wimbledon.

Bublik’s road to the final had already grabbed attention. He came into Halle riding strong form, having won the Turin Challenger and reached the quarter-finals at Roland Garros. Along the way, he defeated names like Alex De Minaur and Jack Draper before upsetting World No. 1 Jannik Sinner in Halle.

With this win, Bublik secures his second title in three years at Halle and strengthens his place in the ATP rankings. He now heads to the Eastbourne International with momentum and rising confidence. Meanwhile, Medvedev’s run helps him return to the Top 10, entering Wimbledon as World No. 9.

Daniil Medvedev loses to Alexander Bublik in Halle Open final

2023 Halle Open champion Alexander Bublik capped off his impressive run of form with a title win on Sunday, defeating Daniil Medvedev at the Terra Wortmann Open. The Kazakhstani star played fearless tennis, showcasing his signature flair to win 6-3, 7-6(4) on the grass courts of Halle. This marks Bublik’s second title at the event, having also lifted the trophy in 2023.

In a commanding performance, Bublik mixed powerful serves with explosive groundstrokes and clever drop shots. It was his first win over Medvedev in seven meetings, making the victory even more meaningful. The triumph adds to an already standout season, highlighted by a quarter-final run at Roland Garros earlier this month.

Just a few months ago, Bublik’s future in tennis seemed uncertain. Before his final appearance at the Phoenix Challenger in March, he had lost 18 of his last 22 matches. But since then, his form has surged. He reached the fourth round in Madrid, went deep at the French Open, and now celebrates another title in Germany.

At 28 years old, Bublik has joined elite company in Halle’s history. He is now the fourth player to win the tournament more than once, alongside legends like Roger Federer, Yevgeny Kafelnikov, and Tommy Haas. His recent results mark a stunning turnaround in what once seemed like a fading season.

Alexander Bublik seals dramatic ranking rise

Kazakh star Alexander Bublik has admitted he came close to quitting tennis before turning his season around with a second title at the Halle Open. The World No. 45 defeated top players, including World No. 1 Jannik Sinner and Karen Khachanov, to reach the final, where he beat third seed Daniil Medvedev 6-3, 7-6(4) in straight sets.

The victory is a significant milestone in Bublik’s resurgence. Just a few months ago, he had dropped outside the top 80 in the ATP Rankings. A key turning point came in May when he won the Piemonte Open Challenger. That was followed by a breakthrough Grand Slam performance, reaching his first-ever major quarter-final at Roland Garros.

Bublik’s win in Halle marks the fifth ATP Tour title of his career and confirms his return to form. His recent results make him a dangerous opponent ahead of Wimbledon, where he reached the fourth round last year. As a result, top seeds will be eager to avoid facing him in the early rounds.

This latest Halle title puts Bublik in rare company. He becomes only the fourth player to win the ATP 500 event more than once, joining legends Roger Federer, Yevgeny Kafelnikov, and Tommy Haas. Bublik is now preparing to compete at the Eastbourne International as the grass-court season continues.
