Both Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have started their preparation for Wimbledon, which starts on June 30. Alcaraz will be entering the tournament as the two-time defending champion, while Sinner will be bidding to win his first Wimbledon title.

In the previous two seasons, the Spaniard upset 24-time Grand Slam champion, Novak Djokovic. The Italian lost to the Serb in the semifinals in 2023, while last year, 2021 US Open champion Daniil Medvedev ended his run in the quarterfinals.

Now these two young rivals have won the last six Grand Slam titles between them. The last player to win a Major other than them was Djokovic, who lifted the 2023 US Open. So for sure Sinner and Alcaraz are the heavy favorites to win this year’s Wimbledon as well.

The tennis community has started predicting the favorites to win the grass-court Major. Nick Kyrgios too shared his verdict on the same during an interview with TalkSPORT.

I would say Alcaraz would be the favorite to win Wimbledon. I saw a stat today that he has won four tournaments on grass and he has only lost three matches on the surface ever. I think he would be the favorite.

Alcaraz’s first grass-court title was the 2023 Queen’s Club Championships, and he doubled the tally by ruining Djokovic’s Calendar Slam goal by beating him in five sets at Wimbledon. Last year, home favorite Jack Draper knocked him out of Queen’s but in the Wimbledon final, he breezed past the 38-year-old.

What I love about Alcaraz is that he has a bit of both. He has a bit of [Rafael] Nadal, [Roger] Federer and Novak all blended into one. He entertains the crowd, he has the physicality, he has the smile and he enjoys it.

Nick Kyrgios added

After overcoming Sinner in an epic French Open final (the longest in the history of tennis), Alcaraz continued his winning ways by beating Jiri Lehecka in the Queen’s final. He is on an 18-match winning streak as before London and Paris, the five-time Grand Slam champion won the Italian Open by beating Sinner.

Carlos Alcaraz battled with nerves before upsetting Novak Djokovic

Carlos Alcaraz failed to overcome eventual winner Novak Djokovic in the French Open semifinal back in 2023. And later on the grass swing, he was successful in beating Alex de Minaur in the Queen’s and when he was pitted against Djokovic in the Wimbledon final, Alcaraz had to calm himself down as he was suffering from nerves.

When I entered the court, the nerves were there! There was a lot of pressure, a lot of nerves. Ultimately, I knew I was playing against one of the best tennis players in history.

Alcaraz has bagged five titles this season and reached six finals. Three of those trophies he lifted on clay. The Monte Carlo Masters and the Italian Open he captured for the first time in his career.

Djokovic only reached one Major final since his victory at the 2023 US Open. At this year’s French Open, Djokovic lost a thrilling straight-set match to Jannik Sinner in the semifinals.

An injury forced him to retire mid-match from his semifinal match against Alexander Zverev in this year’s Australian Open. En route to the semifinal, Djokovic knocked out Alcaraz in the last eight.

The seven-time Wimbledon champion didn’t play any warm-up event before the Major at SW19. Before Paris, he ended his trophy drought at the Geneva Open, winning his 100th singles title, and became the third man after Jimmy Connors and Roger Federer to win 100 or more singles titles.
