Four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel has caused a stir in the Formula 1 paddock. The German driver has confirmed having discussions with Red Bull to return to the grid. This move could see the 37-year-old serve as a mentor to the team. Now, Max Verstappen has expressed his views on Vettel’s potential reunion with Milton Keynes.
There are a lot of similarities between Max Verstappen and Sebastian Vettel. Both drivers made their way to Formula 1 courtesy of the Red Bull driver program. The two have enjoyed years of dominance with Milton Keynes, with four world titles each. Many pundits and fans believe that Verstappen has carried Vettel’s legacy in the sport.
Sebastian Vettel has revealed that he is in early stages of discussions with the Austrian team. The 37-year-old could potentially replace Red Bull Motorsport Consultant Dr. Helmut Marko. Though, this would not be the primary reason for his arrival to Milton Keynes.
Max Verstappen asserted that it would not be unusual to get Sebastian Vettel back to the team considering his immense success with Milton Keynes. The Dutch driver pointed out that Vettel has continued to have a strong relationship with Marko even after leaving Red Bull in 2014. While Verstappen did not directly know the extent of the discussions, he insisted that there must be a space for the German at the team.
It’s more than normal that someone that has achieved so much with Red Bull, has been brought up by Red Bull … that in a sense there’s always a spot available, right? I think Seb always kept a really good relationship with Helmut anyway, even when he left. I didn’t know that of course they were talking, but I’m sure that there’s always a space for Seb in any kind of form.

Helmut Marko gives cryptic update on Sebastian Vettel talks
Dr. Helmut Marko was the one who first showed interest in bringing Vettel to Red Bull. The 82-year-old claimed that the German driver would be his ideal successor at Milton Keynes. Since then, Red Bull has got in touch with its former star driver. However, Marko has hinted that things might not be so simple.

The 82-year-old asserted that while there have been discussions with Vettel, he is not the only one who is on the radar to succeed him at Milton Keynes. Moreover, Helmut Marko pointed out that the final discussion will be made in consultation with Red Bull’s shareholders, Mark Mateschitz and Chalerm Yoovidhya. As such, the two co-owners must come to an agreement over potentially bringing Sebastian Vettel to the team.
We haven’t discussed the position, but he’s following everything closely. The question of whether he will succeed me is also one of the issues. Let’s put it this way: many people want to take it over. Until the summer break, however, we are focusing on catching up. The requirement profile is relatively large and broad; that’s clear. And the two shareholders, Mark Mateschitz and Chalerm Yoovidhya, are involved and have their ideas. Sometimes one doesn’t want what the other does. That’s not easy either.

The 37-year-old would undoubtedly be a good fit for Milton Keynes. Sebastian Vettel is an all-time F1 great, who has a vast experience in the sport. The German driver could share his wisdom with Red Bull and its drivers, or even mentor young drivers for the team. Though, it remains to be seen if such a reunion does take place soon.
