Twice has Jannik Sinner stopped Novak Djokovic from reaching the Grand Slam finals. The youngster and the veteran are once again pitted against each other in a Major final, this time, at Wimbledon.
The match is expected to be nothing short of a blockbuster one. When they met for the first time this year (in the French Open semifinal), it was the Serb who had to face defeat. But now the surface is grass and predicting the favorite is difficult.

Jannik Sinner vs. Novak Djokovic: Match Preview
Jannik Sinner kick-started his campaign for the season in an emphatic fashion, defending his Australian Open title by breezing past World No.3 Alexander Zverev. He then had to stay on the sidelines for three months due to the doping ban he had received from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

Sinner was expected to struggle after making his comeback at the Italian Open but he showed no sign of rust, producing tennis of high level, and eventually reached the final, only to suffer a straight-set defeat to his arch-rival Carlos Alcaraz.
It was Alcaraz again who Sinner faced in his career’s first French Open final. He led the match 2-0 and had three match points in the fourth set. But the result of the match, which lasted for over five hours did not end in his favor.
After some days off, Sinner started his preparation for the grass swing where, at the Halle Open, he was bidding to defend his title. The 23-year-old, however, ended up losing in the second round to eventual champion Alexander Bublik.
Sinner did not expect much from himself because all he wanted at that time was to play a couple of matches on grass because his sole focus was on the Wimbledon trophy. In the ongoing event, Sinner, so far, dropped a set (he lost two) only against Grigor Dimitrov in the fourth round.
But the Bulgarian ace handed the World No.1 a walkover due to a pectoral muscle injury he suffered while hitting an ace in the third set. Before scheduling the match against Novak Djokovic, Sinner knocked out Ben Shelton in straight sets.
Djokovic too, has won just one title this season. He became the third man in the Open Era to reach the 100 title tally by beating Hubert Hurkacz in the Geneva Open final. Apart from Geneva, Nole had also progressed to the Miami Open final but ended up losing to Jakub Mensik. Twice this season, Djokovic registered three consecutive defeats.
In this year’s Majors before Wimbledon, Djokovic gave a walkover to Zverev after losing the first set in the semifinals of the Australian Open, while against Sinner in the semifinals of the French Open, he lost in straight sets. Djokovic has not yet tasted success in Majors since the 2023 US Open; since that win, he reached a Grand Slam final just once (2024 Wimbledon).
Jannik Sinner vs. Novak Djokovic: Match Prediction
While Sinner will be playing his career’s second Wimbledon semifinal, Djokovic is aiming to reach the final for the seventh consecutive time. He suffered defeats only in the last two seasons, to Alcaraz.

Sinner has an edge over Djokovic when it comes to their head-to-head record as he has won five matches in their nine meetings. At Wimbledon, he met the 24-time Grand Slam champion twice, losing both, including in the semifinals in 2023. Given that Sinner has won their last four encounters, he may end the clash in his favor.
Match Prediction: Jannik Sinner to win in five sets.
