The NASCAR Cup garage us currently in a road course racing stretch, as multiple no-oval events were schedule in a close time window this season. While there have been multiple entertaining events in these wild card event, not everyone in the sports is happy about having six road courses races in the schedule. This includes RFK Racing owner driver Brad Keselowski.
Recently on his podcast, Denny Hamlin claimed that NASCAR has too many road course events in the schedule and restarted the debate around it. This has caught the attention of Brad Keselowski and in his usual fashion, he took it to X and shared his thoughts asserting there are too many RC races. NASCAR was built around oval racing and IMSA deserves North American road course legacy, so it better for the sport race more on ovals.
We went from 2 to 6 road course races, possibly 7 next year. NASCAR was successfully built as a primarily oval racing series. IMSA was built as the primary road course series in North America. IMSA will always do road racing better than NASCAR and that’s ok … Yes, TOO many road courses in NASCAR.

The legends of the sports shared similar feeling. Following Shane van Gisbergen’s Mexico City win, earning his playoff despite being outside the top 30 on points, Hall of Famer Richard Petty called out NASCAR for having too many road courses. He asserted that road course racing isn’t part of stock car racing to begin with.
You got somebody that’s 30th in points that’s going to make the playoffs. Hey man, what happened to the guy that 15th, 16th, or 18th (that’s) been running good and finished good everywhere? You’re making a championship situation by winning a road course, which is not really NASCAR to begin with…I think they’re going to have to jockey around and change some of this kind of stuff.
Richard Petty said on a video shared on social media.
How Brad Keselowski feels about losing RFK Racing president?
Since joining RFK Racing as an owner driver from Team Penske Racing, Brad Keselowski has revolutionized the team and they are now in the path to get back to their glory days. One of his major supporters in this growth was Steve Newmark, the team’s president.

This year it was announced that, after spending 15 years in the team Newmark is joining University of North Carolina as the Executive Associate Athletic Director. When asked about how the change is going to affect the team, he shared his thoughts on the veteran’s executive’s legacy with the team.
This sport is always transitional. Whether it be drivers, crew chiefs, or executives. You just hope that the time people spend in your organization is good for them and good for you. I think there is a lot to be said for that with Steve.
Brad Keselowski said.
The team is still working through the void the move has created and looking for a good replacement, but isn’t rushing it as they know it is an important position to fill. Newmark has left the team in a good position regarding contract and sponsorship’s, giving them breathing space to move forward.
We are still working through that. We are not in a rush. We are in such a great spot. All our major contracts are locked up with drivers and crew chiefs, and most of our people. We have a few small sponsor contracts, but most of our big ones are locked up. So, we feel really good about taking our time and seeing what comes to us.

The comments from the veteran racer shows the big impact the move has on the team and how they have a good team behind the owners to help them remain consistent. It would be interesting to see how everything is going playout for the team in 2025 and in the coming years.
