In Short
  • Lil Wayne criticized the officiating in the Lakers' Game 2 loss to the Thunder, calling the games "unwatchable."

  • LeBron James has only received five free throw attempts in the first two games of the series, raising concerns about officiating fairness.

Lil Wayne has been an avid Los Angeles Lakers fan for a long time. However, things have been far from ideal as the Lakers find themselves trailing 2-0 against the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Semifinals.

After a disappointing Game 1 loss, the Lakers started off strongly in Game 2. Unfortunately, they struggled to keep up with the defending champions in the second half and were handed a 125-107 loss at the Paycom Center on Thursday night.

Wayne jumped in on the controversial officiating and echoed the sentiments of many basketball fans. He took to social media to express his opinion on the game.

OKC games are unwatchable. The refs are even dressed in their colors tn! Brazy.

Lil Wayne is often vocal when it comes to the Lakers. The American rapper was critical of the refereeing in Game 2 and even called the Thunder “unwatchable”.

Game 2 did see a lot of questionable calls and non-calls by the officials. LeBron James and Austin Reaves were left frustrated throughout the game. James was seen fuming at the referees from the first quarter to the end of the game. Reaves was also heard cursing at referee John Goble in the fourth quarter.

While the Thunder did run away with a convincing win, the game became a huge talking point because of the officiating. At the end of the game, the Lakers, led by James and Reaves, were seen having an intense confrontation with the referees.

After the game, Lakers head coach JJ Redick went on to say that LeBron James has the worst whistle of any star he has ever seen in the NBA. While James is averaging 25 points in the first two games of the series, he has shot a total of just five free throws so far.

American retailer of sports goods, Foot Locker, also joined in on the criticism of the officiating in Game 2.

These calls are crazy.

It looks like the controversial decisions made a lot more noise than expected. It crossed the line from frustration into something much bigger for the Lakers players, staff, and fans. It wasn’t about just one or two calls; it turned out to be a pattern as the game progressed.

Foot Locker called out the Thunder’s flopping

Over the last two years, many believe that the Thunder have been on the receiving end of many questionable decisions. They are undoubtedly one of the greatest teams in NBA history.

They pose the best defense in the league and have been accused of getting away with too much physicality. They have also been accused of getting calls in their favor more often than not.

Their star player, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, has often been criticized for flopping. The reigning MVP made the free throws and averaged second in the league in free throw attempts per game in the 2025-26 regular season. While SGA has not been at his scoring best so far in this series, he did have nine free throw attempts in Game 2.

To add to their criticism of refereeing, Foot Locker even called out on Thunder’s flopping on social media.

This flopping has to stop.

The Thunder had 26 free throw attempts to the Lakers’ 21 on Thursday night. While the difference may not seem much, it did feel like the Lakers deserved more in Game 2.

However, the Lakers need to get over what just happened and find their way back into the series. They have their backs against the wall and are at risk of going 3-0 down.

The series now moves to Los Angeles for Games 3 and 4. LeBron James and his teammates will need to step up and find a way to take out the Thunder without the services of Luka Doncic. The Thunder are the only unbeaten team left so far in the playoffs as they cleaned out the Phoenix Suns in the first round.
