In Short
  • Casper Ruud confirmed his daughter's name is Camilla, dispelling rumors linking her to Rafael Nadal.
  • Ruud expressed the joy and perspective fatherhood has brought to his life during an interview.
  • He is set to compete against Lorenzo Musetti in the fourth round of the Italian Open.

Casper Ruud‘s daughter was linked to Rafael Nadal all thanks to fake posts on X. Ruud and his partner Maria Galligani welcomed their first daughter in January this year.

After the family time, Ruud returned to the tour at the Delray Beach Open. At present, he is competing at the Italian Open, where he knocked out Jiri Lehecka, after which he sat for an interview with Tennis Channel. Reporter Brett Haber asked him whether his daughter’s name is Rafaella. Ruud quickly shut down the fake news and confirmed that his daughter’s name is Camilla.

It’s not Rafaella. That was probably fake news. The right name is Camilla. I saw that too. Someone on Facebook, I think.

Casper Ruud said

After clearing the confusion, Ruud warmly talked about fatherhood and the joy his daughter has brought to his life.

It’s been really nice and puts your life in perspective in a different way. It’s definitely life-changing, off the court, definitely for the better, and I try to do my job on the court. A couple of extra things to think about, but I try to leave it for time off the court, and she just brings a good smile on my face when I see her when I come back to the hotels and back home. I look forward to everything that comes with fatherhood and the years to come.

Ruud will next be up against Lorenzo Musetti in the fourth round. The Norwegian ace is the winner of 14 singles titles, 12 of which he clinched on clay. Ruud is a three-time semifinalist in Rome and has won just one Masters 1000.

Last year at the Madrid Open, the three-time Grand Slam finalist beat Jack Draper in the final to win his career’s first Big Title. The last time Ruud lifted a title was at the Stockholm Open last year by defeating Ugo Humbert.

Musetti, before scheduling the clash with Ruud, knocked out Francisco Cerundolo in straight sets. The Italian ace holds a 1-1 head-to-head tie over Ruud, but it’s the latter who won their last meeting, in the semifinal of the 2023 Nordea Open.

Casper Ruud heaps a lot of praise on Jannik Sinner

While Casper Ruud is chasing his career’s second Masters 1000 title, Jannik Sinner has already lifted nine of them. This year itself, he has clinched four of them, becoming the first man to win the first four Masters 1000s of the season. Ruud, at the press conference after his third-round win, lauded Sinner for his consistent performance.

I see a lot of people saying that he seems too robotic, not exactly criticizing him, but commenting. And when you understand how difficult tennis is, making it look robotic shows how good you are. This sport is not simple at all, and he makes everything seem easy and natural. It’s incredibly impressive.

Sinner is bidding to become the first man to win six consecutive Masters 1000 titles. If he wins the home tournament, he will also become the second man, after 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic, to complete the Career Golden Masters.

The four-time Grand Slam champion knocked out Alexei Popyrin to schedule his fourth-round match against compatriot and qualifier Andrea Pellegrino, who defeated Frances Tiafoe in the previous round. Sinner finished as the runner-up in Rome last year, losing to arch-rival Carlos Alcaraz, who is not competing in the event due to a wrist injury that he suffered during the Barcelona Open.

The seven-time Grand Slam champion will also not be playing at the French Open, because of which, Sinner will be entering the clay-court Major as the heavy favorite.
