In Short
  • Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves were eliminated from the playoffs after a 139-109 loss to the San Antonio Spurs.
  • Nike Basketball trolled Edwards with a post referencing his Adidas campaign after the Spurs advanced to the Western Conference Finals.
  • Victor Wembanyama led the Spurs to their first Conference Finals appearance since 2017, expressing confidence in facing the Oklahoma City Thunder.

It was a humiliating defeat for Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves as their 2025-26 campaign came to an end on Friday night. The Wolves were left behind and had to play catch-up for the entire game in front of their home crowd.

Edwards and his teammates had no answers for the San Antonio Spurs, who were nearly flawless in Game 6. The Wolves struggled to even get any sniff of a comeback as they suffered a 139-109 blowout loss at the Target Center.

After the game, Nike Basketball took the opportunity to fire shots at Edwards. The post was a quote to the NBA’s announcement of the Spurs advancing to the Western Conference Finals. It was an image of an alien symbol carved into the sand on what appeared to be a Mars-like surface. Above the alien symbol, it was written:

Believe This.

The image shared on X by Nike Basketball was more of a response to Anthony Edwards and Adidas. Edwards has been signed with Adidas since he was drafted into the NBA in 2020.

Earlier this year, in February, Edwards and Adidas dropped an ad campaign for his signature shoes “AE 2”. The slogan in the ad was “Believe That”. Edwards trolled several stars in the league, including Victor Wembanyama, who appeared as a lanky green alien in the ad.

Wembanyama is signed with Nike, and hence, the American sportswear company saw it as the perfect opportunity to give an apt response to their competitors. The response may have taken three months, but Nike couldn’t have asked for better timing.

Anthony Edwards on what the Wolves need to get over the hump

With the Spurs coming out hot from the beginning, the Wolves had their hands full as they struggled to make shots throughout the game. Anthony Edwards has had his moments in the series, but has been battling through a knee injury for the majority of the playoffs. But the Wolves suffered a huge loss when Donte DiVincenzo tore his Achilles Tendon in the first round against the Denver Nuggets.

After the game, while speaking to the media, Edwards was asked what was needed for the Wolves to get over the hump.

We just need everything to be clicking at the right time. I think missing Donte is big for us, man, like he spreads the floor like no other. A series like this, where they just double teaming, like I would love to have Donte in my slot and just throwing it to him the entire time and shoot 20 threes.

It was a difficult shooting night for Edwards, who faced double and triple teams throughout the series. In Game 6, Edwards scored 24 points but shot at just 34% from the field, highlighting his scoring struggles.

Victor Wembanyama on facing the Oklahoma City Thunder

The Spurs are coming off an impressive regular season. With Victor Wembanyama leading the way, some questioned whether the Spurs’ lack of experience would be a problem for them in the playoffs this year. But so far, they have been more than just fine as they sealed their spot in the Western Conference Finals for the first time since 2017.

After the win, Wembanyama was asked if they were confident about facing the Oklahoma City Thunder in the next round.

Of course we’re confident but we need to keep the right confidence level…I’m not even thinking about it. I’m just thinking about recovering, I’m thinking about getting this press conference over with it.

Wembanyama has been on a tear in his first-ever NBA playoffs. He has already broken a few records so far and will be high on confidence when they face the defending champions. The Spurs won four of the five games they played against the Thunder in the regular season. If there is any team that could trouble the Thunder, it is the Spurs.
