Carlos Alcaraz is watching the French Open from the sidelines because he injured his wrist during the Barcelona Open. He skipped not just the clay-court Major but will also not be playing at Wimbledon, where in the previous three seasons, he played in the title clash.
The French Open is drawing to its end. Alexander Zverev, Jakub Mensik, Flavio Cobolli, and Matteo Arnaldi have reached the semifinals. Zverev will face the Czech ace, while Cobolli and Arnaldi will play in an all-Italian semifinal.
Alcaraz is the two-time defending champion. It was Zverev whom he defeated in five sets in 2024, while last year, he overcame Jannik Sinner. Spain’s Davis Cup captain, David Ferrer, while chatting with El Partidazo de COPE, revealed what the seven-time Grand Slam champion told him about his injury.
Just this morning I sent him a message because I get up quite early, and I was surprised because he answered me early, and I told him, “Wow, how strange that you answer me so early?” And it was because he was travelling to Barcelona to see Dr. Cortorro. He told me that he was eager to compete, that it was feeling long, and I think that’s very good.
Because Alcaraz had 4,300 points to defend on the clay swing, he lost his No.1 ranking to Sinner after losing the Monte-Carlo Masters final to the Italian ace. In last year’s Wimbledon final, the World No.2 couldn’t complete the three-peat, losing in four sets to the four-time Grand Slam champion.
That is very good by Carlos that he has the illusion of returning to competition. The process is going well. I don’t know exactly when he’s coming back, but it is on the right track. What I liked was the fact that he told me that he was looking forward to competing again. It has excited me for him to come back with that illusion.

Alcaraz has not yet revealed when he will be returning to the tour. He has already played three finals this year, winning the Australian Open and the Qatar Open by defeating Novak Djokovic and Arthur Fils, respectively.
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga says Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have not yet become true greats of the game
Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic have won 66 combined Grand Slam titles, with the Serb being the only member of this legendary trio yet to call time on his career. Djokovic, even though he has reached the twilight of his career, defeated two-time defending champion Jannik Sinner in the semifinals of this year’s Australian Open.

According to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, it’s too early to compare Carlos Alcaraz and Sinner to the Big 3. During his interview with Tennis365, the Frenchman said:
It’s not unusual that we have one or two guys that dominate, but maybe you will have to for 20 Grand Slams before you will be able to compare those players. It’s difficult to say for me because I am not on the court. What we can say is that Novak is still there and he is still bothering many of the guys. The last time Sinner played Novak in a Grand Slam, he lost. So that says a lot.
For the first time since 2022, a player other than Djokovic, Sinner, or Alcaraz will win a Grand Slam title. Sinner suffered a shock second-round exit at the hands of Juan Manuel Cerundolo, while Djokovic failed to overcome Joao Fonseca in the third round.
Sinner was bidding to become the seventh man in the Open Era to complete the Career Grand Slam. Alcaraz became the youngest man to achieve this feat in this year’s Australian Open.
