Aroldis Chapman has seemingly not forgiven the New York Yankees and their General Manager, Brian Cashman. Amidst reports of a potential trade, the relief pitcher wants Cashman to apologize to him if he were to reunite with the Bronx Bombers.

The Cuban-born American star has had two stints with the Yankees in his career. In December 2015, he was traded to them by the Cincinnati Reds. A few months later, in July 2016, he was traded to the Chicago Cubs.

At the Cubs, Chapman enjoyed World Series success. In Game 7 of the Fall Classic against the Cleveland Guardians (then Indians), he was credited with the win as the NL Central side won 8-7 in 10 innings and completed a 3-1 comeback in the series.

In December, Chapman signed a 5-year, $86 million deal and returned to the Yankees. In his time in New York, the left-handed pitcher made 146 saves and was a 3-time All-Star. However, things ended on a sour note for him.

In August 2022, Chapman went on the injured list following an infection in the leg that he developed during a tattoo. He missed a mandatory workout with the team before the 2022 American League Division Series (ALDS) and was left off the team’s postseason roster.

Following stints with the Kansas City Royals, the Texas Rangers, and the Pittsburgh Pirates, the closer joined the Boston Red Sox in December 2024. The move to the AL East side has worked out well so far for the pitcher, as he has been in dominant form once again.

At the moment, the Red Sox sit at the bottom of their division standings after getting swept by the Tampa Bay Rays. With a 27-39 record, they are 5.5 games behind the final wild card spot and need a huge turnaround to keep their season alive.

Amidst this, Chapman’s name has come up in trade talks. The pitcher is currently on a $13 million contract, which will expire later this season. So instead of losing their star player for free, the Red Sox could be tempted to trade him for some players.

The one name that has shown up is the Yankees. While a direct trade between the two rivals is a big task, the 8-time MLB All-Star does not want to go back to New York without any apology from Brian Cashman, who accused him of insubordination.

What happened, happened. If something like this were to happen, I believe someone from this organization should apologize first.

When asked if that one person was Cashman, the player nodded in “yes.“

Last year, Chapman had seemingly closed the door regarding a return to the Bronx. In an appearance on the “Swing Completo” podcast, the pitcher said in Spanish that he would rather “retire” on the spot than go back to the Yankees.

I’d pack my things and go home. I’ll retire right on the spot if that happens. I’m not crazy. Never again.

He now once again finds his name linked with the Yanks. Before anything happens, he wants an apology from GM Cashman for his words.

Aroldis Chapman comments on trade rumors regarding him amid Red Sox’s poor showing

The Boston Red Sox have not had a good time this year. The team sits at the bottom of their division standings with a 27-39 record (12 games behind .500). Amidst this, trade rumors regarding Aroldis Chapman have started. In an interview with ESPN Deportes, the pitcher opened up about this.

While speaking with Enrique Rojas, the 2-time World Series winner claimed that he has no control over this and was just focused on playing.

Every day you see social media and also people in the press talking and commenting about it. … I have no control. At the end of the day, I have no control over that, and I’m just focusing on being able to play, even though I’m not playing much right now.

In 20 games this season, Chapman has allowed just one run. While having a 0-1 record, he has pitched with a 0.46 ERA in 19.2 innings while striking out 26 batters and recording 13 saves.

As for the Yankees, they are 41-26 and tied for the top spot along with the Tampa Bay Rays. The potential addition of Chapman could strengthen their chances of bringing back the World Series title to New York.

The Yanks last tasted championship glory in 2009 when they defeated the Philadelphia Phillies. Since then, they have suffered several heartbreaks, including the 2024 World Series and the 2019 American League Championship Series (ALCS), where Chapman gave up a series-ending walk-off home run to Jose Altuve in Game 6 against the Houston Astros.
