Victor Wembanyama has been on the receiving end of a lot of abuse and insults from New York Knicks fans, especially after Game 4. The Knicks fans have been guilty of crossing the line far too many times during the playoffs this year.

Known for their loyalty and passion, Knicks fans are arguably the best fanbase in the league. But more often than not, things get out of hand. For all the negativity and flak they have received over the last six weeks, they can celebrate wholeheartedly after lifting their first championship in 53 years.

Game 5 began in the same way as the previous games. The Knicks started slow before bouncing back strong in the second half. They closed out the series with a 94-90 victory over the San Antonio Spurs at the Frost Bank Center.

Heading into Game 5, Charles Barkley called out Knicks fans and ripped whoever threw eggs at Wembanyama.

What kind of scumbag takes 3 eggs to throw at Wemby? Just when you think New Yorkers can’t be more punkish. They do something like that. You have to put some thought into that to go home and get eggs to throw at Wemby…. Those are cowards. Those are real cowards!

Victor Wembanyama has emerged as a new villain in the eyes of Knicks fans during the NBA Finals. The relationship between the two took a turn when Wembanyama shoved Jalen Brunson to the floor in Game 3.

After the dramatic ending in Game 4, Knicks fans were seen waiting for the Spurs players at the team hotel. However, when Wembanyama was entering the hotel, some fans threw eggs at the French star.

The whole incident received criticism from several NBA personalities. Many will hope that nothing like that happens again and that the Knicks fans can just celebrate their crowning moment.

It is never a pleasing moment to have eggs thrown at someone. But the Spurs center handled himself very well as he just turned around after the eggs were thrown at him. He remained composed and calm despite the hostile environment.

While speaking to the media, Wembanyama was asked about the incident that occurred after Game 4.

I didn’t really think much of it. I just saw that one video with the eggs. It’s OK. I don’t dislike it. It’s not good at all, but that’s about me.

Wembanyama shared his thoughts on what he learned during his Finals run this year.

One of many things I learned is that margin of error is very thin. Our domination stint is absolute. We absolutely dominated for most of the series but our mistakes are punished so hard. We can’t have our ups and downs like this.

Wembanyama was unbelievable throughout the postseason and showed that he has what it takes to be the face of the league for years to come. In his first NBA Finals, he averaged 26 points, 11.2 rebounds, and 3.6 blocks in five games. They may have lost the series in five games, but it was a big learning experience for the young superstar.
