New York Knicks fans have been celebrating ever since it became evident that the team started their postseason winning streak.

When Jalen Brunson and his New York Knicks toiled, won, and lost in the past couple of years in the postseason, they knew what that heartbreak did to the people residing in the city.
When the New York Giants won two Super Bowls, defeating Tom Brady and his New England Patriots, the city’s sports fans rejoiced. They did the same when the New York Liberty won the WNBA championship a couple of years ago.
However, as the legendary Spike Lee has often mentioned, New York is a basketball city and considers the Knicks to be its flag-bearer over the Liberty.
That is why they continuously pour out their jubilation onto the streets whenever the team wins. It was evident in the past, and has been the same this time.
In fact, when the residents realized that their team was in pole position to win the first championship in more than five decades, they took to the streets to celebrate.
With every win, those celebrations turned up a notch, where the NYPD had to use force. But after the Knicks sealed the title at San Antonio, thousands of fans took to the streets.
No police force is capable of keeping them in check, and they went on to celebrate with anything and everything they could get their hands on.
Knicks fans are DESTROYING the city

They set a school bus on fire 😭 pic.twitter.com/3pvvJKKHM1
Sure, there was no looking, but they climbed up on top of school buses, ripping their bonnets apart, and even setting five of them on fire.
Social media tears into Knicks fans for destroying public property
Those school buses were deployed to ferry soccer fans to World Cup venues. No wonder social media erupted when they saw the visuals.
Fans tore into New Yorkers for destroying public property just to take part in the celebrations. They felt that the city was showing its ugly side. Other cities have won, too, but they do not commit acts of violence. Check out examples of those reactions below.
Looks like a bunch of stone age savages with clubs going crazy over fire

Winning an NBA championship should be a moment of joy, not an excuse to destroy public property and ruin a working man’s livelihood.

The NYPD will have a hard time circling down on anyone and everyone involved in these incidents. They have arrested quite a few people so far, but getting to them all will be a difficult task.
The likes of Stephen A. Smith and others have condemned such acts. But it does not seem to be subsiding, as all they want is to continue the celebrations.
New York Knicks are to get a parade on Thursday
This pandemonium will not subside anytime soon. It is as if New Yorkers have been bottling up their years of anguish and are letting it all out now.

It will get worse if the city’s law enforcement agencies cannot get a grip on the situation. The team has returned home, and fans will probably camp outside Madison Square Garden just to get a glimpse of them.
But come Thursday, they can do it with the entire team. Moments after the Knicks won Game 5 of the NBA Finals to lift the Larry O’Brien trophy, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani wrote this on X
PARADE. THURSDAY. MANHATTAN.
Mayor Mamdani revealed
— Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani (@NYCMayor) June 14, 2026
This means that it will be an official parade, where fans can line the streets of Manhattan to get a glimpse of their champions. Expect a massive NYPD presence, as the last thing the Mayor would want is for a controlled situation to get out of hand.
