At the age of 45, Joe Gibbs Racing veteran Denny Hamlin is producing some of the best raced he has ever been part of in his two-decade long Cup career. On Sunday he secured his maiden three-peat, after winning at Pocono, also marking his 4th win of the season. But amidst all the domination one key discussion has been how many more years the veteran has left in the top division.
JGR co-owner Heather Gibbs broke the teams silence on the retirement talks during their post-race media session. She admitted that the team and the driver is open to a contract extension past 2027, considering the No:11 team is performing on a higher level than most in the garage and the fact that the racer wants to drive as long as he is competitive.
He wants to leave on top, right? I mean, he doesn’t want to leave where it was one year too long. But at this rate and what he’s producing out there, I mean, it’s not something you would not consider.
Heather Gibbs told media post-race.

The TRD giants want the racer to be with them for as long as they can, as they team knows a good Denny Hamlin can win multiple races a year for the team. But Heather Gibbs also knows about the other commitments the racer has, such his team 23XI Racing. Hence, they are taking this one race at a time.
So, I think we always want the best drivers in our cars. Our team works to put the best cars on the track. And so, if it works out and he’s still producing and he wants to, it’s a huge commitment for him. He’s got his own team that he kind of wants to run. But it’s hard when you dangle checkered flags in front of him.
Heather Gibbs added.
Joe Gibbs is more impressed than ever about Denny Hamlin
Talking to the media, the majority owner of JGR Joe Gibbs admitted that Hamlin hasn’t done as impressive as what he is doing at the moment in his career. This dominance, marking 64th win of his career, is something the NFL Hall of Fame Coach appreciates a lot.

I said to him that I think what he’s doing now, in our 20 years, is probably the most impressive thing he’s done. At his age and all the things that he’s got going for himself, he still has a drive to really go after it. So, I just really appreciate that.
Joe Gibbs said.
The veteran then shifted his focus to the loyalty Hamlin has shown for the teams over the years. He has been racing for them for more than 20 years, winning almost every season and Gibbs appreciate that factor more than anything.
I appreciate him and us being together for this long; he’s been so faithful and loyal to us, and it’s all these people who have built this. I’m just along for the ride.
Joe Gibbs added.
The comments from the veteran driver are on point and shows how much he cherishes having Hamlin as his driver. It would be interesting to see if the racer can reward the trust from his boss with a championship in 2026.
