Draymond Green Claims Victor Wembanyama’s No Handshake Walk Off Shows Immaturity: “Look Your Killer in Their Face”

After Jalen Brunson and his New York Knicks won Game 5 to win the 2026 NBA Championship, they wanted to shake the hands of their opponents. But Victor Wembanyama and his San Antonio Spurs were nowhere to be found.
The series was something where one can say that the latter had a legitimate chance to win. Along with the title-sealing game, two other losses were decided by four points or fewer.
The other two were a 10-point series opener that saw a visibly tired Spurs having to run after the well-rested Knicks. Therefore, it is clear that the Western Conference Champions had every chance to flip the result in their favor.
But in every one of those losses, the pattern was the same. In the first two quarters, Victor Wembanyama and his teammates would gain the upper hand. Then, in the second halves, the Knicks would come back and win the games.
That also explains why the Frenchman and his teammates kept repeating that they were still in the fight. It could also be the reason why they were so disappointed after the final buzzer sounded that they walked away without shaking the Knicks’ hands.
Look your killer in the face… If you leave the court and you don’t look me in my face, and I just beat you, I actually know that I own you forever… To see them walk off the court, it was disheartening. I’ll blame it on youth.

This was the four-time champion flaming the Spurs for not doing what real competitors do. He pointed to the lack of leadership for this to happen, while not pinning it on anyone in particular.
Karl-Anthony Towns deflects Victor Wembanyama’s ‘no-handshake’ controversy
One of the reasons the San Antonio Spurs lost is because of Karl-Anthony Towns. The Knicks center made Victor Wembanyama look human.

The latter’s exceptional postseason performances led many to think he was ‘unguardable.’ When the cast of the Today Show asked KAT about Wemby’s general negative attitude and not shaking hands at the end of the series, he replied:
He’s a great player. He’s a once-in-a-generation player, someone that the league is honored to have.
Karl-Anthony Towns said
It was a deliberate attempt at deflecting the question. Towns knows anything he says, either for or against, will be created into a major headline.

Therefore, it was best for him to first praise Victor Wembanyama, and then shift to why he and his teammates went on to win the NBA Championship.
That was 11 seasons of PR coaching and experience talking. Unlike the Spurs center, the now champion knew how to talk and behave with a mic in his face.
Analyst believes Victor Wembanyama not shaking hands with Knicks is good
While others are trying to knock down Victor Wembanyama for both, standing cross-armed during the national anthem and not shaking the hands of the New York Knicks, Jay Williams has a different opinion.
You will never see this Victor Wembanyama again… I don’t need my big man to be a nice guy. I need my big man to be nasty things… It’s good to go through pain, and how do you channel that pain towards where you wanna go.

The former No. 2 overall pick believes that some players are supposed to play the villain role. If the pain of losing a championship makes them more of a villain, so be it.

For the good of the game and the said athlete, it is alright if they decide to show their lack of maturity. It will eventually turn them into motivated monsters who would want nothing else than to win.
