Drew McIntyre hasn’t appeared on WWE programming since losing to Jacob Fatu at WrestleMania. However, some recent online rumors suggested that he was on his way back to television ahead of this year’s SummerSlam. It appears the so-called rumors were false, and the Scot isn’t expected for a WWE return anytime soon.

It’s because he has landed a new movie role. The 4-time world champion has been cast for The Last Druid, a historical action drama also starring Academy Award-winning actor Russell Crowe. The film will begin shooting in Spain this summer. For the unversed, McIntyre had also acted in the Chad Stahelski-directed action movie Highlander earlier this year.

PWInsider reported that the Ayr-born wrestler has been circling several Hollywood projects since wrapping up Highlander. There’s now an increased chance of McIntyre taking up more movie roles in the future. That being said, the outlet suggested not expecting him back in WWE anytime soon. It also added that the company currently doesn’t have anything planned for McIntyre creatively.

It’s no secret that Drew McIntyre‘s WWE booking over the past one year and even more has been extremely questionable. He lost multiple high-stakes matches in that course, causing an irreparable dent to his presentation. Take, for instance, his feud with Cody Rhodes over the world title last summer.

McIntyre suffered two pinfall losses to Rhodes in the meantime but pulled something back by dethroning ‘The QB1’ for the Undisputed WWE title on the second SmackDown of this year in Berlin. It was contested under the Three Stages of Hell stipulation that worked for the Scot due to Jacob Fatu‘s interference causing collateral damage to the former AEW EVP.

If one looks at it, WWE didn’t make Drew McIntyre beat Cody Rhodes clean as a whistle. And guess what? ‘The Chosen One’ lost the world title back to Rhodes just over two months later in March, which broke his dream of walking into WrestleMania as the Undisputed WWE Champion.

What did Drew McIntyre personally think of losing the WWE title just before this year’s WrestleMania?

Drew McIntyre was particularly asked about being a transitional world champion en route to WrestleMania 42. ‘The Scottish Psychopath’ joined Chris Can Vliet on his Insight podcast for a lengthy conversation just weeks before competing at the Grandest Stage of Them All. Upon being told how irate the fans were over him dropping the WWE title back to Cody Rhodes, McIntyre said he was a little bit more worried about his UK fans at the time.

As for the fans disappointed for him in general, Drew McIntyre said he appreciated every one of them for doing it on his behalf. He said he’s sometimes equally as disappointed on a personal level and conveys it to the people in charge of WWE. McIntyre says he’s given a particular creative direction for his character, and he tries sticking to it with him giving his input from time to time.

Admitting that things do change in pro wrestling, he affirmed not ever getting lied to in terms of the journey of his on-screen character. McIntyre remained professional throughout and kept stressing about looking at the bigger picture instead of just fixating on his moment getting taken away from him.

The Scotsman even said that doing Cody Rhodes vs. Randy Orton at WrestleMania this year was more suited to hold up to the grandeur of the event. McIntyre affirmed that he’ll be the first person to point it out if the story WWE tells with him doesn’t make sense at all.

However, with everything that happened on the road to WrestleMania, personal bias aside, the 41-year-old didn’t think there was a flaw in the storytelling. McIntyre believed that he’d inevitably go on a babyface run down the line with the kind of fan support he has been able to garner along the way.
