The grass swing is underway, but neither Carlos Alcaraz nor Jannik Sinner is in action. The Spaniard, in fact, has not competed since the Barcelona Open, where he injured his wrist and was forced to withdraw not just from the French Open, but he will also not be playing at Wimbledon, where he reached the final in the last three seasons.

And in his absence, Sinner will enter the Major as the heavy favorite. He will also be competing as the defending champion. Last year, he ruined Alcaraz’s hat-trick goal with a four-set win. In 2023 and 2024, it was seven-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic whom Alcaraz defeated in the finals.

Another player who was forced to skip the French Open was Lorenzo Musetti. He suffered from a thigh injury during the Italian Open, where he lost to Casper Ruud in the fourth round. Musetti recently sat for an interview with L’Officiel Italia, during which he commented on the games of the top two players.

The most beautiful and complete tennis? Perhaps that played by Alcaraz; I think it’s the most contemporary tennis. Sinner is impressive, almost perfect in terms of composure, mental clarity, and consistently maintaining an incredible standard. But in terms of aesthetics, the beauty of the game, I’d say Alcaraz. When they’re at their best, they’re the two champions who play the best tennis today.

Sinner, although he lost to Djokovic in the Australian Open semifinals and to Jakub Mensik in the Qatar Open quarterfinals, lifted five back-to-back Masters 1000 titles. His win in Rome made him the second man, after Djokovic, to complete the Career Golden Masters.

But at the French Open, physical discomfort led to his defeat to Juan Manuel Cerundolo in the second round. He needed just a game win to win the match, but cramps saw him lose game after game before he eventually crashed out. He was aiming to become the seventh man in the Open Era to complete the Career Grand Slam.

Lorenzo Musetti on the most painful match of his career

Lorenzo Musetti has met Novak Djokovic 11 times, and could win just one match. It was in the fourth round of the 2023 Monte-Carlo Masters, and this is Musetti’s career’s most memorable match.

The most painful match of his career was also against the Serb. And it was in this year’s Australian Open quarterfinals. The Italian was two sets to love up but was forced to throw in the towel due to discomfort in his upper right leg.

The match that gave me the most satisfaction? When I beat Novak Djokovic at the Monte Carlo Masters in 2023. He was number one in the world at the time, a player I’ve always admired since I was a kid. The most painful defeat? Again against Nole, earlier this year at the Australian Open, when I was winning 2 sets to 0 and then had to retire due to an injury.

Lorenzo Musetti told L’Officiel Italia

The Queen’s Club Championships are underway, but Musetti withdrew from the tournament. He has yet to decide on his participation in Wimbledon, the main draw of which starts on June 29. Musetti suffered an opening-round exit in last year’s Wimbledon. But he is a one-time semifinalist in the tournament, reaching the semifinals in 2024 and losing to Djokovic.

The 24-time Grand Slam champion last won the grass-court Grand Slam in 2022 by defeating Nick Kyrgios. He has already played a final this season. After defeating Jannik Sinner in the semifinals, Nole lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the final. Then at the French Open, Joao Fonseca beat him in the third round.
