The Pride Month celebrations in Major League Baseball have turned into a political fest following three San Francisco Giants pitchers, Landen Roupp, JT Brubaker, and Ryan Walker, choosing to write Bible verses on their pride-themed hats. While Sam Hentges skipped wearing the hat altogether, a mainstream rejection of LGBTQ+ has added a new layer to the huge controversy.
The three players wrote Genesis 9:12-16, a callback to God establishing the rainbow as a sign of the covenant that was formed between divinity and humans after the biblical floods. While Roupp maintained that there was no attack mindset behind their intentions, Major League Baseball has issued a warning to the players, hinting at pushback if such instances are repeated.
The United States of America Vice President JD Vance has now reacted to this warning, reminding that Donald Trump won the last presidential election and there was no requirement to issue a warning. JD Vance retweeted a post about the MLB’s warning to the franchise:
Trump won we don’t have to do this anymore.

Josh Hawley, US Senator from Missouri, also reacted to the ongoing controversy, demanding answers from the MLB commissioner. Hawley lashed out at the organization for what he believes to be a pattern of discrimination and trampling on free speech as well as the players’ right to express their Christian faith.
While the San Francisco Giants have rejected the Pride celebrations, the Atlanta Braves’ Pride celebrations have become a symbol of inclusion. Amid an increasing polarization towards the community, including calls for overturning the legislation that made same-sex marriage legal, the Braves’ event in Truist Park has won the hearts of the wider community.
All-Star pitcher Spencer Strider, 27, was a highlight of the Braves Pride Social, delivering a poignant speech that appealed to many. Strider announced:
We want everybody to feel included and a part of the community here in Atlanta and at Truist Park. Baseball can be a part of that. That’s exciting and [we] definitely want to take this opportunity. So we appreciate you being here and Go Braves.

Rob Schneider agrees to pay any fines levied on the Giants players with bible verses
Former SNL cast member and Hollywood actor Rob Schneider has come to the support of the Giants pitchers. The California-born actor switched his allegiance to the Republican Party in 2013 and has widely lauded some of the controversial policies under the Trump administration.

He wrote on X:
I will pay the fines for any @MLB Christian player who wears a Bible verse on their uniform. @MLB is ANTI-CHRISTIAN.

In 2024, Schneider called for the boycott of the Paris Olympics 2026 after the controversial opening ceremony. He called the event a celebration of Satanism, and he couldn’t get behind an Olympics that insulted, referring to the drag queen segment, Christianity. However, Schneider’s wish for the Olympics to have a low viewership didn’t pan out.
Earlier this year, he was brutally trolled by online media after his comments on young adults serving two mandatory years in the army on turning 18. Several critics took to their socials to point out that the comedian enjoyed his young days acting and doing comedy instead of being on the frontlines.
