Pete Crow-Armstrong has faced some criticism this season following his performances. On Monday, he silenced some of his doubters by recording the 13th cycle in Chicago Cubs history. Immediately after that, he got picked off.

On Monday, the Cubs took on the Colorado Rockies at Wrigley Field. Last week, they dropped 2 out of the 3 games against them and lost the series in Denver, Colorado. After the series loss, they won 3 games in a row before losing on Sunday against the San Francisco Giants.

In the series opener against the Rockies in Chicago, Crow-Armstrong got his team on the board with a solo home run in the bottom of the 1st inning. This shot was his 13th home run of the season.

In the 3rd inning, he hit a triple. This was followed by a double in the fifth inning, leaving him just a single shy of hitting for the cycle.

The historic moment for PCA came in the 7th inning. With the Cubs 2-1 down, the outfielder hit a line drive into right field and reached the 1st base safely to complete the cycle.

While this was the 13th cycle in the Cubs’ long franchise history, it was the first to be done in reverse order. The player first hit a home run, then had a triple, a double, and capped it off with a single to complete this historic feat.

The home fans gave him a standing ovation for this achievement. Immediately after this iconic moment, Crow-Armstrong got picked off at first base by pitcher Brennan Bernardino.

In the top of the 8th inning, the Cubs fell 4-2 down through a 3-run home run by Cole Carrigg. The hosts fought back in the bottom of the frame. With 2 runners on base, the Cubs pulled one run back through a sacrifice fly from guess who? Pete Crow-Armstrong.

The 24-year-old hit was caught in the right field by Tyler Freeman. However, it was hit deep enough for Matt Shaw to take off from 3rd base and reach home to make it a 4-3 game.

A single from Pedro Ramirez in the 9th inning tied the game at 4-4. With the bases loaded, relief pitcher Seth Halvorsen gave up a walk, resulting in the Cubs winning 5-4.

Thus, PCA’s efforts did not go in vain. The Chicago Cubs improved to a 38-35 record and remain third in the NL Central standings behind the St. Louis Cardinals and the Milwaukee Brewers.

Pete Crow-Armstrong comments on his productive batting in recent weeks

Pete Crow-Armstrong had a slow start to the 2026 season. In recent weeks, however, he has been highly productive at the plate. On Monday, he showcased his talent once again while hitting for the cycle against the Colorado Rockies.

In 73 games this season, PCA has batted with a .277 average while having 13 home runs and 35 RBIs. As per stats by MLB.com, he has taken off in his last 15 games. In this timeframe, he has hit 7 home runs and has 11 RBIs in 64 at-bats while hitting with a .453 average and a .478 OPS.

It was cool. I’m proud of myself for the work that I’ve been doing the last few weeks and, really, over the course of the year.

Pete Crow-Armstrong said as per MLB.com

This surge in form also comes after he found himself under the heat following an interaction with a fan. During the rivalry series against the Chicago White Sox, he hit back at a heckling female fan with an NSFW comment. He later apologized for this.

The Cubs star was also subjected to some “overrated” chants by the opposition fans. He answered back with a home run.

Earlier this month, against the Athletics, he lost the ball in center field. This led to an inside-the-park home run for Shea Langeliers.

He later redeemed himself with a walk-off hit. In the 9th inning, he lifted the ball in the right field, allowing the runner from third base to score and win the game 7-6.

So the player has had some troubles. However, he has been able to bounce back strongly. The Cubs will now look to claim the series with a victory on Tuesday.

At one stage of the season, the team was flying high and had two separate 10-game winning streaks. They then embarked on a 10-game losing streak, which has seen them fall in the standings. Since then, they have been giving chase to the Milwaukee Brewers, who are 7 games ahead of them as of Monday.
