The New York Knicks are NBA champions for the third time in their franchise history. It was a long wait as they won their last championship in 1973. 53 years later, they had one of the greatest postseason runs of all time.
James Dolan took control over the Knicks in 1999. He has often been criticized for his poor management of the franchise. They were abysmal in the 2000s and did not make the playoffs at any point between the 2003–04 and 2010–11 seasons. However, things began to change over the last few years.
The Knicks owner was asked whether he would entertain selling the team to Elon Musk. Dolan’s answer did not leave any room for speculation.
No, I don’t think we’re going to sell the team. We’ve been at this for a long time and I’m gonna enjoy this team. The stock of the team has gone up dramatically in the last year and there’s really no reason for us to consider.

The New York Knicks are one of the most valuable sports clubs in the world. The estimated value of the franchise is $9.75 billion, making it the third most valuable franchise in the NBA.
While Elon Musk became the world’s first trillionaire and buying the Knicks shouldn’t be a problem for him, James Dolan has made it clear that he has no intention to sell even a minority stake. Dolan has been heavily invested in the Knicks’ postseason run this year.
He went as far as to issue the team a 10-week ‘No S**’ rule. In the end, it may have worked out for the better as they lifted the championship.
New York Knicks valuation to grow after NBA championship
The Knicks have always been a valuable franchise despite their lack of success in terms of trophies. It is one of the most followed clubs, and they have arguably the most loyal fanbase in the league.
With their valuation reaching $10 billion last year, it is possible they have surpassed that mark after winning the championship this year. It was a historic playoff run with Jalen Brunson winning the Finals MVP award.
Fresh off a championship and rising media value, James Dolan will want to keep full ownership of the franchise. Musk will have the money even if the Knicks’ value doubles tomorrow, but it looks like that will not be happening any time soon, at least.
James Dolan says Knicks accepted White House invite from Donald Trump
It is well known that James Dolan is a supporter of the Republican Party and is a good friend of President Donald Trump. Dolan invited the President to attend Games 3 and 4 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden. Trump accepted the invitation and made an appearance in Game 3.

When asked if the Knicks would visit Trump at the White House, Dolan said they would.
We just did receive an invitation from the White House, which we accepted. I invited the president to come down for the game, right? He is a friend. I’ve known him for 30 years. And I’m very proud to bring the team to the White House. First time ever [for a president] for any NBA Finals. And then you guys get to go back and be celebrated for the entire country to see at the White House at some future date.

Trump is a lifelong fan of the Knicks. He has been regular to games at the MSG and surprised everyone when he agreed to attend Game 3 of the Finals. Dolan confirmed the Knicks’ presence at the White House; it remains to be seen how others in the franchise react to it.
