The biggest trade saga of the year has finally come to an end as Giannis Antetokounmpo has been traded to the Miami Heat. The move sees his time with the Milwaukee Bucks come to an end after 13 years. It also brings an end to the forward’s turbulent relationship with the franchise.
It was a difficult 2025-26 campaign for the Bucks. They missed the playoffs and even the Play-In Tournament as they finished at 11th place in the Eastern Conference standings with a 32-50 record. To add to their poor record, they had to deal with the noise and speculation surrounding their star player for the entire season.
NBA insider Shams Charania broke out the news of Antetokounmpo’s trade on Monday via X.

The trade will be a huge relief to the Bucks and Giannis Antetokounmpo. It has been a long time coming, as it was reported that the Greek superstar requested a trade in the offseason last year. The relationship between the player and franchise was deteriorating towards the end of the regular season as well.

Giannis Antetokounmpo will go down as the greatest Bucks player ever
There is no doubt that Giannis Antetokounmpo is one of the best players in the league today. It has been a while since the NBA world witnessed anything special from him, hence, it is normal for him to have his doubters.
Injuries hampered his 2025-26 campaign as he was restricted to just 36 appearances, he still averaged 27.6 points, 9.8 rebounds and 5.4 assists. His impact on both ends of the court and greatness will see him contend for individual awards once again from next season.

While his departure from the Bucks may have not been on the best of terms, it is a no brainer that Antetokounmpo will go down as the greatest Bucks player in history. Drafted as the 15th pick in 2013, he has won them their first championship in 50 years in 2021 and was named as the Finals MVP. To add to it, he won two league MVP awards and a Defensive Player of the Year award.
Antetokounmpo also holds almost every major all-time statistical record for the Bucks. He is the all-time franchise leader in total points, total rebounds, total assists, and total blocks. Bucks fans will definitely miss him after a decade of dominance.
