Spire Motorsports’ Carson Hocevar has been making the headlines for the last few weeks the last few weeks for all the wrong reasons. Last Sunday it was for the run-in with Corey Heim and this week the drama involved the 23XI Racing drivers boss Denny Hamlin. The No:77 was involved in the action that spun the No:11 in the final laps of the Sonoma race.
The Chevy driver on his post-race made a wild claim about the incident after the race. He admitted about being afraid of getting accused of race fixing, as the unintentional hit could’ve caused Hamlin’s elimination from the in-season bracket challenge against Ty Dillon, who the Spire driver praised a lot recently. In the same conversation later, the youngster apologized to the JGR team for his involvement in the drama.
I wasn’t even seeing I was hitting Denny, I was avoiding trying to knock my front end off when he was spinning. I was happy to hear that I wasn’t the difference maker of Ty beating Denny because I think I would be looked at for sports fixing, probably because of the way I was singing Ty’s praises. Ultimately, I apologize to them. I wasn’t trying to spin them.
Carson Hocevar said post-race.

Denny Hamlin is clearly disappointed and furious with how his race ended on Sunday, as the incident deprived him the opportunity earn more points on the day. Though he knew the No:77 of Carson Hocevar was involved, he didn’t give the media his thought on who is to blame but admitted that he clearly frustrated.
I mean, I’ll have to just see what happened and, you know, reevaluate from there I haven’t seen but I know you want a reaction, but I haven’t seen it. When I see it, I’ll react to it…It’s frustrating for sure.

Carson Hocevar slams critics of his social media activity
Another reason, Hocevar was the talking point last week was the criticism from veteran racers including Kyle Larson. The reigning champion called the Spire driver immature and shared his dislike for the childlike antics of the racer own social media in a recent podcast appearance.

He’s more immature than what his age is. I have his little Twitch stream thing pop up on my Instagram feed every now and then, and I’m like, ‘Dude, this guy is like an 8-year-old’
Kyle Larson said on Racin’ With The Boys.
The Chevy driver hit back by trolling Larson with a cheeky post on X, after qualifying much better than the HMS driver for the Sonoma race. He also talked to the media about the drama and admitted that the senior figures in the garage are taking his social media actions too seriously, joking they are too easy to rile up.
Yeah, I think some of these guys take things way too seriously at times. I like just having fun, I don’t know. Yeah, it’s so easy to get a lot of them riled up. I just get to race how I want to race, I get to live how I want to live. Yeah, I love everything about it. And I get to run my own social media, and nobody complains. So, I’m excited for it, and I get to just have fun.
Carson Hocevar said ahead of the race.
The comments from the young racer shows the massive generation gap among the drivers as well as the overall cultural difference on and off the track. It would be interesting to see how the hilarious beef between the duo is going playout in the coming days.
