Gunther’s Physical Confrontation With Nick Aldis After Night of Champions Sparks Rumors of Their Match
The fans are clamoring for Nick Aldis to wrestle Gunther at this year's SummerSlam after their Night of Champions scuffle.

Gunther failed to capture the WWE title at Night of Champions. In fact, a man whom he deemed a non-factor to him heading into the PLE ended up leaving Riyadh as the brand new Undisputed WWE Champion. And his name is Sami Zayn. The latter rolled up Cody Rhodes to end his title reign at the 113-day mark.
Amid the euphoria of Zayn’s WWE title triumph, a pissed-off Gunther stopped Nick Aldis backstage and got into the face of the SmackDown general manager. ‘The Ring General’ accused Aldis of getting things done as per his liking by inserting Zayn into the WWE title picture.
Gunther had already aired his grievances about how he got robbed at Clash in Italy against Rhodes. A costly mistake from the referee resulted in Rhodes retaining the gold. That’s why Gunther would eventually choose Zayn as the special guest referee for his WWE title rematch against Rhodes on SmackDown a couple of weeks before Night of Champions.

However, it worked against the Austrian, and he succumbed to a fast count from ‘The Last Real Good Guy’. The frustrations had been compounding for Gunther over the last couple of months. Consequently, ‘The Career Killer’ went ballistic at Nick Aldis after Night of Champions got over. He shoved the former Magnus initially and received a warning for not repeating it.
The erstwhile Walter wouldn’t stop venting his spleen and called Aldis jealous of not being in Gunther’s position. The former leader of Imperium also insulted the Englishman by calling him a failed wrestler. Aldis physically resisted Gunther closing the gap between them. ‘The Ring General’ responded by grabbing Aldis’ collar with nearby WWE officials and producers trying to separate them.
Big E questions if GUNTHER and Nick Aldis' issues are leading to "something more":

"This is a man who has not stepped out of the gym. I don’t know if he formally retired.
"A lot of us know who followed his career, this man has done some big things in this industry. I wonder if… pic.twitter.com/UrBlj3nzMy
It did look like an angle to set up a match between Gunther and Nick Aldis in the near future. SummerSlam would be an ideal destination for Aldis to put his wrestling boots back on if WWE were to actually build towards it.
Even Big E couldn’t help but wonder if this would lead to something more. The former New Day member said during the Night of Champions post-show that the SmackDown GM has been hitting the gym regularly.
E alluded to Aldis being in great shape and stressed that the former TNA World Champion hasn’t retired from in-ring competition formally. For the unversed, the 39-year-old wrestled his last match in August 2023 before assuming the role of the SmackDown GM and a backstage producer in WWE.
Gunther vs. Nick Aldis does look on track for SummerSlam
Nick Aldis said in a 2024 interview with Chris Van Vliet that he would want to step in the ring for one more match at least. ‘The Modern Day Gladiator’ knew he met all the criteria to lace up a pair of wrestling boots again. Nick put a ton of emphasis on choosing the right time and place for that to happen.

Aldis has a story going on with Gunther for quite some time now, and this could lead to the WWE in-ring debut of the man who was formerly known as Magnus. It would be interesting to see how WWE would approach the apparent Gunther/Aldis feud en route to SummerSlam.

The SmackDown GM has well and truly established himself as an imposing on-screen authority figure in WWE. This would definitely help him with the organic crowd reactions if he does resume competing, regardless of how frequent it might be.
