Nearly a year ago, basketball fans felt that Malik Beasley was going to eventually return to the NBA after it was reported that he was cleared in the federal investigation into his gambling activities.
The sharpshooter’s agent had claimed this, and Beasley ran with it, even publicly suggesting that the truth would clear him. At the time, it was rumored that the New York Knicks were interested in him.
However, nothing came of it, and he continued to work out and stay in shape with the hope that he would be able to play in the NBA again.
In the meantime, financial struggles saw him evicted from his house. The trolls were onto him, but he kept responding to them, suggesting that his day would come.
Then, there were allegations of not paying his barber, and problems with his ex-wife also cropped up. In the midst of this, the federal authorities and the NBA reiterated that they were still investigating the 29-year-old.
He tried to find work outside the country in the form of Bad Bunny‘s Puerto Rican basketball team. Now, that door has also closed once the federal authorities completed their investigation.
Nine-year NBA veteran Malik Beasley has been indicted on federal charges for gambling related to a sports betting scheme, such as point shaving and prop bets, his attorney Steve Haney tells ESPN. The government is coordinating a voluntary surrender of Beasley this week.

This means that Malik Beasley will now have to consider playing in the prison courts. Even if he somehow escapes jail time, there is no chance he would play in the NBA again.
Fans troll Malik Beasley after indictment
The NBA made a statement when it handed Jontay Porter a lifetime ban. There is no doubt now that Malik Beasley would get the same treatment.
When basketball fans came to know about this, they were reminded of how the Georgia native once claimed innocence. Now, they believe he will face the consequences of his actions. Examples of such reactions and more are listed below.

I follow him on snap he made it seem like the case was closed and was just hoping to be back in the lead one day

All those bricked shots suddenly make sense. 😂

Point-shaving athletes destroying the game they love? Voluntary surrender won’t save his career. NBA must BAN him permanently. Protect the integrity!

So I wasn’t insane for thinking this guy was literally point shaving as a Laker 😭

They about to give that boy the longest yard treatment.

Imagine being on top of the world and then finding yourself in federal prison. Actions have consequences unfortunately

This is absolutely wild. Point shaving and rigging prop bets is the ultimate red line in professional sports. A career completely thrown away

Malik Beasley should have seen this coming, as fans have repeatedly shown receipts of how he tried to manipulate scores. Some fans pointed out that despite all of this going on, he was still casual about it, as he was live on TikTok just two days ago. Now, they believe prison will teach him.
Malik Beasley helped bettors to cover millions of gambling losses
While there are enough instances that look like Malik Beasley was intentionally trying to change the outcome, it seems he was doing so to cover massive gambling losses he incurred.

As per ABC News, the former 19th overall pick did so to aid bettors so that they would help him cover the millions he lost in gambling throughout his career.
Unlike Jontay Porter, who was trying to make more money, it seems the addiction is what led Beasley to lose it all. He earned nearly $60 million throughout his nine-year career.
Former NBA players Malik Beasley and Ed Davis are among six people indicted in an alleged sports gambling scheme.

Prosecutors say Beasley lost millions gambling during his NBA career and manipulated his own performance in games to help pay off debts. pic.twitter.com/dm4LlgP2oP
The irony is that had he not indulged in illegal activities, his shooting form from his lone season with the Detroit Pistons may have landed him a contract that could have covered his previous gambling losses. But the pressure from creditors tends to force people into doing the wrong things.
