Jaylen Brown has been grabbing the headlines over the last few days. He has been involved in a number of exchanges with Stephen A. Smith, which have spanned for a few weeks and are now rumored to be on his way out after an impressive 2025-26 campaign with the Boston Celtics.
It was reported that the Celtics included Brown in their trade package for Giannis Antetokounmpo. However, the Greek superstar was traded to the Miami Heat. But it looks like Brown may still get traded away.
ESPN insider Bobby Marks reported that Brown’s trade value is not as high as some might expect. Citing one anonymous “analytics guy,” Marks said that Brown is viewed as the “seventh-best player” on a team. While Brown has stayed away and not publicly responded to any of his exit rumors so far, he could not hold himself back after coming across the post on X. He wrote:
Analytics nowadays used to discredit and control narratives – Roll the ball out none of these guys better than me on both ends who does he work for.

Jaylen Brown has never shied away from speaking his mind on social media or in his live stream. In December, he claimed that players need to “sell their souls” to win the MVP award and has been critical of officials this year.
He is back in the trade rumors once again after four years. It may be a surprise to many as he is coming off his best individual campaign this year. He averaged 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists in 71 appearances and came sixth in the MVP voting this season. It looks like the “analytics guy” in question needs to do his homework better.
Fans react to Jaylen Brown’s response to viral analytics claim
It makes no sense at all for Jaylen Brown to be viewed as the seventh-best player on any team in the NBA. He is one of the best two-way players in the league today. Hence, it is not surprising to see Brown not let the disrespect stand.
Following his response, fans took to the internet to react to his post on X.
Yea man idk if I had hundreds of millions of dollars for an NBA team there ain’t 6 dudes in the ENTIRE LEAGUE id put above JB lmao this is wild. You the #1 option to run a team lol. All this fuckery online is crazy. JB is top 5 in the NBA for the last decade go argue w ya grams

But what wasn’t posted was the 2m of saying I’m not an analytics person but an eye test guy. That I would want Jaylen Brown on my team. That you impact winning (191-80 in the last 4 years), is a top-10 player and would help any team looking to win a championship. That part of…

After seeing what JB did last year the league should be investigated for the shade / hate being directed towards this man

Media definitely working hard to tank you and Ja Morants reputation

Sports media has been very disrespectful to you Jaylen from one of your Boston fans do not listen to their assumptions, gossip and BS. Your intelligence, integrity, honesty, stats, performance, community service, and leadership are highly valued and your talent outstanding

If there were a team in the NBA with 7 players the caliber of Jaylen Brown, they would be the NBA Champions. No ifs, ands, or buts.

Fans were left bemused after Bobby Marks’ post. Many berate the “analytics guy” and believe the media is trying to tank his value so he gets traded away.
Stephen A. Smith comes out in defense of Jaylen Brown
The viral post caught the attention of Stephen A. Smith as well. The journalist and Jaylen Brown have been at war of words over the past month. Brown recently labeled ESPN and Smith ‘unethical,’ which provoked a reaction out of Smith a few days ago.

Despite their ongoing feud, Smith came out in defense of Brown and slammed the viral post.
Now this is utterly ridiculous. I have no doubt that Bobby Marks was told what he said he was told (He’s incredible at what he does) — but there is no way in hell Jaylen Brown is the 7th-best player on any team in the NBA. He may be the best 2-way player in the league. Yes, it’s me saying this. Folks be on some b.s. Stop It!

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Jaylen Brown. The whole situation has been quite disrespectful in the way the Celtics have treated Brown. It is going to be interesting to see if Brown stays or decides to leave the franchise in the coming weeks.
