Amanda Anisimova has continued to enjoy life at Wimbledon after securing her place in the third round on Thursday (July 2). The American star reached the finals last year before losing to Iga Swiatek in straight sets. In this year’s edition of the tournament, she’s mostly focused on enjoying her time on the court and in the city.

Anisimova has plenty of points to defend at Wimbledon, and she’s under pressure to defend them or risk dropping out of the top 8. The World No.6 won six matches at the grass-court Grand Slam, and she’s hoping to win the same. She has won two already, with the first coming against Lina Gjorcheska on Tuesday (June 30).

She faced fellow American star Sofia Kenin in the second round and had to fight hard to earn the victory. Anisimova won the first set easily, breaking Kenin twice, but the former Australian Open champion reacted in the second set, breaking the World No.6 once to win the set 6-4 and force a decider.

The deciding set shows that Kenin, now ranked World No.105 in the world, is a shadow of the player who had triumphed at the Australian Open in 2020. She had the opportunity to beat Anisimova, who struggled to stop the barrage of unforced errors that kept flying from her racket. But Kenin allowed Anisimova back into the match after taking a 3-1 lead.

Anisimova yelled at herself in frustration before rallying to beat Kenin 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(3) at the All England Club. Anisimova felt relieved after the victory as she cupped her ear to the crowd in celebration. After the match, she revealed that she has fallen in love with London and enjoys exploring the city during her spare time:

I love the subway; I took it on the first day I arrived, although it was because I felt lazy to walk back and only did one stop. I find it fun because in Miami, I always drive, and I don’t really like doing that. When I’m in cities where I can get around by train, I really enjoy that experience. It’s a good way to clear my mind. Usually, it means I’m going to explore somewhere or do something during my free time, so far everything has gone very well.

Anisimova showed signs of being under pressure as she sometimes yelled towards her team in the players’ box in frustration. She will need to play with more composure heading into the crucial phases of the tournament. The 24-year-old has failed to defend any of her titles and has reached a final this season.

Amanda Anisimova looks forward to facing Madison Keys in the third round of Wimbledon

Before Wimbledon kicked off, Amanda Anisimova admitted that she’s only focused on the moment and trying not to remember that she has big points to defend this second half of the season. The American star understands that she’s not in good form currently, having won just 16 matches and lost 8 this year.

The World No.6 will face Madison Keys in the third round on Saturday (July 4), an all-American matchup in Wimbledon. Speaking during the aforementioned press conference, she admitted that they will push each other to raise their levels during their clash:

It’s very nice that she said those words about my backhand; the truth is, I think exactly the same about her and her game. She’s a player who hits very hard, one of the best on the circuit, so I’m sure it will be a great match. I believe that we both have very similar styles, so I’m convinced that both of us will push each other to raise our level during the match.

Keys has won seven matches in the last ten days on grass. She claimed the Eastbourne International for the third time last week. But Anisimova holds a 1-0 record over the former Australian Open champion in their head-to-head record, which she will hope to extend when they face off in the third round.
