Jessica Pegula is the highest-ranked player left in the draw after the top 3 players crashed out of the Wimbledon Championships. The American star is not yet the favorite to win the title as other Grand Slam winners are still competing. One of them is Coco Gauff, who has won two Slams, and Pegula will face her for a place in the semi-finals of Wimbledon.

Coco Gauff is in her first Wimbledon quarter-final in her career. After crashing out in the first round of the tournament last year, the former World No.2 has been brilliant on the grass court, grinding out wins despite not being at her best. She hopes to utilize the confidence she has gained at the All England Club against Pegula on Tuesday (July 7).

Jessica Pegula vs. Coco Gauff: Match Preview

Jessica Pegula has been one of the most consistent players on the circuit this season. Having reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open and then won the Dubai Tennis Championships and the Charleston Open. The World No.4 got to the final of the Berlin Tennis Open, beating Aryna Sabalenka in the semi-finals, but lost the title to Linda Noskova.

Pegula kicked off her campaign at the Wimbledon Championships with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Darja Vidmanova. The American star then crushed Spanish star Sara Sorribes in the second round before overcoming Jessica Bouzas Maneiro 6-1, 6-3. She came through in the fourth against fellow American star Iva Jovic, winning 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 in a testing encounter at the All England Club.

On the other hand, Coco Gauff is yet to win a title this season. She has managed to reach two finals, both at a WTA 1000 tournament, but has lost two of those matches. Gauff hasn’t been in her best form in the last couple of weeks before Wimbledon. She lost to Anastasia Potapova in the third round of the French Open and crashed out of the Berlin Tennis Open in the round of 16.

At the All England Club, she has dropped three sets, but has found a way to win her matches. She defeated Tamara Korpatsch 6-2, 6-1, before overcoming Argentine star Solana Sierra 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(7). The former US Open champion beat Claire Liu 6-3, 6(5)-7, 6-2 and then produced a fourth-round comeback against Belinda Bencic with a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 win on Sunday (July 5).

Jessica Pegula vs. Coco Gauff: Match Prediction

Jessica Pegula has won seven matches on the grass court this season, more than Coco Gauff. The 32-year-old has won titles on grass on previous occasions, including the Bad Homburg Open last year, but that cannot be said about Gauff. Pegula has also reached the quarter-finals of Wimbledon twice, but this is Gauff’s first last eight on tour.

Gauff might not have the kind of record on grass like Pegula, but she knows what it means to fight hard on the court. On several occasions this season, Gauff has played poorly but found a way to win her matches, the same tactics she has used at Wimbledon, winning three of her four matches in three sets.

However, Pegula holds a 5-3 lead in their head-to-head record. She defeated Gauff in three sets at the WTA Finals in Riyadh last November. The last time Gauff beat her compatriot was at the Wuhan Open final in straight sets. The tie at Wimbledon is likely to get to three sets, and Pegula is the favorite to win because of her consistent form on grass this swing.

Match Prediction: Jessica Pegula to win in three sets.
