What Novak Djokovic produced on the evening of Tuesday (July 7) was nothing short of a masterpiece. Up against him was a player enjoying decent form and 15 years younger than him.
It was Felix Auger-Aliassime who took the second and fourth sets off the 24-time Major champion before eventually losing with scores of 7-6 (10), 3-6, 6-3, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (4). The match did not end before five hours and 15 minutes.
But the job is not done yet because up against the Serbian great in the semifinals will be defending champion Jannik Sinner. Even though Nole will enter Centre Court as the underdog, Sinner definitely won’t be expecting anything less than a tough battle.
Djokovic, at the press conference after his quarterfinal win, sent a warning to the youngsters that even at 39, he still has it in him to beat them.
At this stage of my career, I can still compete with and beat guys 15 years younger than me. What happened today was like a final. I gave it everything.
Djokovic, in fact, had knocked out the four-time Grand Slam champion in five sets in the semifinals of this year’s Australian Open. Although he lost the final to Carlos Alcaraz later, Djokovic knows that Wimbledon could perhaps be his last chance to end his Grand Slam title drought, so he is expected to produce one of his best performances of his career, like the way he did against the Spaniard in the 2024 Paris Olympics final.
I keep trying to prove to myself and others that I’m capable of competing with the best players in the world and beating them on the biggest stages. That’s what I did in Australia. That’s what I’ve done here. I hope I can do it again here in London.
Novak Djokovic added
Djokovic holds a 5-6 head-to-head record over Sinner. The only match that the Serb won in straight sets at this Wimbledon was in the second round against former World No.3 and two-time Major finalist Stefanos Tsitsipas. Last year at the grass-court Major, Sinner ended his run with a straight-set win in the semifinals.
Felix Auger-Aliassime analyzes his match against Novak Djokovic
Novak Djokovic, with this win, has improved his head-to-head record over Felix Auger-Aliassime to 2-1. It was the first time they faced each other on grass.

To sum it up, it was an incredible battle, an incredible fight against a legend of our sport. That’s how it is. Obviously, it’s very tough for me. It happened to me in the quarterfinals in Paris and now here.
Felix Auger-Aliassime said at the press conference
The Canadian ace played the quarterfinals of Wimbledon for the second time in his career. In the French Open quarterfinals this year, he lost to eventual runner-up Flavio Cobolli.
It’s a matter of playing styles. His is more consistent and solid in the most pressure-filled moments than mine. His serve is probably one of the best in the draw. And with the return, we know what he does. On every second serve, he makes you play one more shot and always returns deep. We have seen it for many years, but it’s still impressive that he can do it over and over again.
Felix Auger-Aliassime added
Auger-Aliassime, a two-time Grand Slam semifinalist, will next be gearing up for the North American hardcourt swing. The 25-year-old, the winner of nine singles titles, has lifted one trophy this year from two finals.
After winning the Open Sud de France against Adrian Mannarino, Auger-Aliassime lost the Rotterdam Open final to Alex de Minaur. Djokovic, however, last won a title at the 2025 Hellenic Championship by beating Lorenzo Musetti.
