Carlos Alcaraz reacted to an AI image of him and his arch-rival Jannik Sinner as Bjorn Borg and John McEnroe on social media. The World No. 2 appears to be enjoying himself more on social media since his wrist injury, which forced him to withdraw from the ongoing Wimbledon Championships. However, Sinner has been engaged, and he’s aiming to defend his title at Wimbledon.

Alcaraz last player to compete in a competitive event on the court at the Barcelona Open, where he defeated Otto Virtanen in straight sets. After the victory, he underwent a test that showed he had injured his wrist during the match. He has withdrawn from a series of tournaments, including the French Open and Wimbledon.

Meanwhile, Sinner is looking to win his sixth title of the season and first Grand Slam of the year at Wimbledon. The Italian star booked his place in the last four of the competition after beating Jan-Lennard Struff in straight sets on Tuesday (July 7); he will face seven-time champion Novak Djokovic for a place in the final.

Nonetheless, with Wimbledon entering its final stretch, a fan on social media ran an AI image of Alcaraz taking the place of John McEnroe and Sinner the place of Bjorn Borg in one of the legend’s iconic photos ahead of their match. Borg and McEnroe were fierce rivals during their time on the court.

Borg and McEnroe clashed 14 times from 1978 to 1981, and it is known as one of the greatest rivalries in men’s singles history. They shared a 7-7 head-to-head record, with Borg nicknamed “Ice” and McEnroe “Fire”.

A fan on Instagram tried to prove that there’s a resemblance between the Sinner and Alcaraz rivalry and the one that Borg and McEnroe shared during their professional career. Alcaraz viewed the image and reacted to the post, claiming that he looked more handsome than McEnroe:

I look even better than John Mcenroe.

Borg was diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer in 2023. He underwent surgery in February 2024 and is now in remission, returning for testing and monitoring every six months. The 70-year-old has admitted that he lives “day by day and year by year” with hope of defeating cancer.

On the other hand, McEnroe has been working with the BBC as a commentator at the ongoing Wimbledon Championships. The former World No.1 recently warned Sinner to raise his game, or he will risk a shocking exit in the semi-finals.

Fabio Fognini wishes Carlos Alcaraz a speedy recovery from wrist injury

There has been encouraging news for Carlos Alcaraz’s fans in the past 24 hours. According to La Verdad, a Murcia-based publication, Alcaraz’s hometown, the World No.2 is scheduled to undergo a medical evaluation this Friday. The evaluation is to find out if he will be able to begin full training next week Monday.

Alcaraz has been engaging in partial training sessions over the past few weeks to maintain fitness and stay sharp while still recuperating from his wrist injury. In an interview with Fabio Fognini with Puntodebreak, the former Italian player admitted that he met Alcaraz earlier this year and was expecting to watch him at the ongoing Wimbledon:

I saw him in Miami and told him that when he came to Wimbledon, I would go to watch his first match on Centre Court. We had talked about it, but in the end, the injury came. I wish him a speedy recovery because I believe he and Jannik Sinner are making our sport incredibly exciting. It is a real pleasure to watch them play.

There’s a growing possibility that if Alcaraz is medically cleared to start training, he might feature at the Canadian Open. The Spaniard didn’t compete at the Toronto Masters 1000 tournament last year, opting to play only Cincinnati before the US Open, winning both titles in an excellent fashion.
