LeBron James and Stephen Curry

It would be a dream scenario for the NBA world to see LeBron James and Stephen Curry play together. After having a rivalry for over a decade, the thought of the two superstars being side by side has gotten fans excited all over the world.

The fans did get a taste of both of them playing together a couple of years ago. The two joined forces on a star-studded Team USA squad at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The two former champions played an instrumental role in leading their country to a gold medal.

During the 2026 American Century Championship golf tournament, Curry was asked what the core of his pitch to James to join the Golden State Warriors would be.

I don’t have a percentage. It’s kinda up to him. The pitch is: Do you want to play good basketball and be around people who know how to play the game? Raise our floor, competitiveness…There’s good golf in the Bay.

Stephen Curry in a press conference

There is no doubt that both LeBron James and Stephen Curry are in the backend of their careers. James is coming off a record-breaking 23rd season in the NBA, while Curry just completed his 17th season.

When it was announced that James would be leaving the Los Angeles Lakers after eight years, several clubs have been linked to the 41-year-old since the 2025-26 campaign came to an end. But the biggest surprise were the Warriors. James and the Warriors have a storied rivalry; hence, it was a shock to many when he was linked to them last week.

Both players know what it takes to win a championship and have even played together, even if it was for a short span. During the golf tournament, Curry even revealed that he would love to play alongside the King.

The Warriors are coming off a disappointing 2025-26 campaign. They finished in 10th place in the Western Conference standings with a 37-45 record. Their season came to an end in the final game of the Play-In Tournament.

When asked about his confidence in the roster if James does not join them, Curry responded:

I mean, it’s to be determined. That’s what free agency is about. LeBron’s in a situation where the league is waiting. It’s great to get KP back, great to get Melt back. We’re in a unique situation where Jimmy [Butler] is hurt, Moses [Moody] is hurt and they’re going to miss a good amount of the season. You have to try to hold the fort down until those guys get back because we do have an idea of what we could be with them.

With Jimmy Butler not expected to return till the second half of the regular season due to an ACL tear he suffered early this year, Curry will need to keep the Warriors afloat till then. Hence, having a player like James by his side would lessen the burden on the 38-year-old till Butler returns.

Stephen Curry on the appeal of playing with LeBron James

The thought of Curry and James playing together would be box-office. The hype surrounding the Dubs would be off the charts. The two have faced off in the playoffs five times. Four of those clashes were in the NBA Finals from 2015 to 2018. Their most recent face-off was in the 2023 Western Conference Semifinals.

Curry acknowledged the appeal of joining forces with James after everything they have been through:

Up until probably two, three years ago, that was like a pipe-dream question or even a thought. But that’s part of the allure. Him going into his 24th season, me going into my 18th, the battles we’ve had, that would be such a unique story in NBA history, in sports history. But a little premature right now to talk about it.

Despite their age, Stephen A. Smith believes that James joining Curry in Golden State would turn them into title contenders. It has been reported that James may play beyond the 2026-27 campaign.
