There was a point when most fans felt that Conor McGregor may never compete again. After five years away from the Octagon, ‘Mystic Mac’ finally returned at UFC 329. Max Holloway waited 13 years to rematch and avenge his loss to the Irishman, only for the bout to have an anti-climactic ending.
Ahead of the bout, Dana White announced that the International Fight Week card broke the all-time UFC live gate record, raking in nearly $25 million. Fans came in huge numbers to see the two UFC legends face off one final time for the UFC 329 ceremonial weigh-ins. However, the crowd witnessed the Irishman get injured again after five years.
McGregor moved forward and started with a jumping kick in the first round. However, he immediately fell and may have tweaked his knee. Holloway followed it up with strikes on the ground and McGregor tried to get back up. Soon, Holloway told the referee that his opponent may be injured.

Five years ago at UFC 264, McGregor lost the bout after breaking his leg against Dustin Poirier. It certainly looks like ‘The Notorious’ may never fight again after UFC 329.
During his first bout with Holloway back in 2013, McGregor blew his knee out and needed to use his wrestling skills to attain victory. At 37 years of age, the UFC superstar may not have the same fire in him to overcome adversity. Despite his best attempts, his body gave out.

MMA fans and fighters waited five years to see the Irishman, and the ending certainly left a bitter taste in everyone’s mouth. One particular footage showed McGregor in some pain before entering the octagon.
Commentators Joe Rogan, Daniel Cormier and Jon Anik expressed disappointment and worry after reviewing multiple footages. Nevertheless, it was a record-breaking night for the UFC and McGregor despite the bitter ending.
Conor McGregor holds 3 of the top 4 UFC live gate revenues after UFC 329
If there ever was doubts regarding the drawing potential of Conor McGregor, UFC 329 put those doubts to rest forever. His UFC 205 PPV held the top spot for live gate revenue for years until UFC Noche at the Las Vegas Sphere broke that record back in 2024.

UFC 205, where McGregor faced Eddie Alvarez, was the highest live gate of the Irishman’s MMA career until UFC 329. UFC 205 grossed around $17,700,000, which was also the promotion’s first event at the iconic MSG arena.
The infamous UFC 229 involving McGregor and his heated rival Khabib Nurmagomedov grossed $17,188,895. Meanwhile, his last fight at UFC 264 five years ago grossed $15,759,800. The figures of UFC 329 breaking the all-time UFC record was confirmed by Dana White in his appearance on the SportsCenter.
The Conor McGregor effect is huge. Our biggest gate ever was The Sphere – $22 million. This gate (UFC 329) beat it – $25 million. So, it’s the biggest gate in UFC history for his return. The city is buzzing.

It remains to be seen McGregor will ever compete again after today. However, one thing is for sure. No one will quite reach the live gate record of the Irishman anytime soon.
