In a thrilling Wimbledon final held on Saturday (July 11), Linda Noskova prevailed over countrywoman Karolina Muchova with scores of 6-2, 5-7, 6-3 to become the newest Grand Slam champion. Both entered Centre Court to taste Grand Slam glory for the first time in their respective careers.
Noskova was dominant in the first set, ending it quickly in her favor, but the pressure of winning the next, plus Muchova’s late comeback, saw the 21-year-old lose the set in a dramatic fashion, with Muchova also saving five match points.
Even though the deciding set was tight, Noskova kept winning games one after another before she eventually wrapped up the match in her favor. The win has made Noskova the third woman from the Czech Republic in four years to win the title at the All England Club. Before her, Marketa Vondrousova clinched the title in 2023 by defeating Ons Jabeur, and the following year, Barbora Krejcikova beat Jasmine Paolini.
Both Noskova and Muchova were chasing their Grand Slam title. While Noskova had never reached a Grand Slam final before this event, Muchova had played the 2023 French Open final, losing the match to the now six-time Grand Slam champion Iga Swiatek.
It was also Noskova’s career’s second title on grass, as before Wimbledon, she reached the final of the Berlin Open (also her first final on grass), but lost the title to Jessica Pegula. Wimbledon is also Noskova’s career’s first Grand Slam title. Last year, she came close to winning a Big Title at the China Open but couldn’t go past Amanda Anisimova. Prior to her victory over her compatriot, Noskova knocked out Marta Kostyuk in straight sets.
Noskova will be taking home $4.8 million as prize money for winning the title. Muchova will pocket $2.4 million as the runner-up.
Karolina Muchova calls her clash versus Linda Noskova the worst match of the tournament
Karolina Muchova is greatly disappointed after her Wimbledon defeat. After playing one of her best matches against two-time Grand Slam singles champion Coco Gauff in the semifinal, Muchova couldn’t produce a similar result against Linda Noskova and called the match her worst one of the tournament at the press conference.

I think today was one of my worst matches of the tournament. I played much better in the previous matches. I started very slowly, and Linda came out with a lot of intensity, serving very well and playing very quickly. I struggled to find my rhythm on the court and used up a lot of energy trying to get back into the match. Then, in the third set, I couldn’t maintain that level.
Muchova, too, was bidding to win her second trophy on grass. Before playing the London Major, she secured the title at the Bad Homburg Open after receiving a walkover from four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka.
The truth is, after the semifinal, I felt more physically tired. The match against Coco was very demanding, and I think I felt it. There were also nerves; I really wanted to win this final, and perhaps that made me feel a bit blocked from the beginning. Even so, I tried to give it my all on the court.
Karolina Muchova added
On Monday, Muchova will reach her career-best ranking of No.6, while Noskova will reach the seventh spot. Noskova made her top 10 debut last month. Before Wimbledon and Bad Homburg, Muchova also made the final of the Qatar Open and the Stuttgart Open. She won in Doha by defeating Victoria Mboko but lost the Stuttgart title to Elena Rybakina.
After some much-needed rest, both players will start preparing for the North American hard-court swing. Noskova suffered second-round exits in both the Canadian Open and Cincinnati Open last year, while Muchova reached the fourth round in Montreal and the third round in Cincinnati.
