At one point, it seemed like Tyler Herro would play for the Miami Heat for a very long time. Both the player and the club seemed to get the best out of each other every time the young star stepped onto the court. It looked Herro had completely immersed himself into the Heat culture.
Herro was drafted by the Heat as the 14th pick in the 2019 NBA draft. The early signs were promising as he played a crucial role off the bench when the Heat made it to the NBA Finals in his rookie year in 2020.
However, after missing the playoffs this year and getting clean swept by Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round last year, it was clear that the Heat had to make some big changes. Unfortunately, it meant that Herro’s seven-year stint with the franchise came to an end.
In a recent interview, Herro kept the doors open for a possible return later in his career if it made sense.
I appreciate Miami. I appreciate my time there. And I would be open at some point to end my career there, but it would just have to make sense.

Since the departure of Jimmy Butler at the trade deadline last year, the Heat have struggled to make any noise in the Eastern Conference. After a disappointing end to their 2024-25 campaign, there were rumors that the Heat front office could blow the roster as they look to compete for a title once again.
At first, it looked like the Heat were counting on Herro for the future after offering him a three-year, $150 million deal. However, Herro struggled to impress in the 2025-26 campaign and was criticized for it.
After the Milwaukee Bucks were open to trading Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Heat wasted no time in including Herro in their trade package.
Tyler Herro has no ill feelings towards the Miami Heat after the trade
It is an unfortunate ending for Tyler Herro in Miami. During his seven years playing for the club, he won Sixth Man of the Year award in 2022 and became an All-Star for the first time last year. There is no doubt that Herro loved playing for the Heat.

Hence, when asked if he had any ill feelings towards the club after the trade, Herro was quick to respond with a no.
Never. They drafted me from Kentucky, and they gave me a platform. They gave me an opportunity. They believed in me, and it was a great seven years. Not many guys in my draft class are still on their teams or anything like that. So, again, I’m just excited and appreciative for everything that’s kind of happened and transpired.

Herro has had several great moments in his seven years in Miami. But now, he has found a new home in Milwaukee and will be a part of their rebuilding project.
Tyler Herro was anticipating a trade this summer
After Butler’s departure last year, the Heat lost a star and even a leader. While there were moments where it looked like Herro would take over and lead the franchise, it never came to fruition. A poor 2025-26 campaign meant it was just a matter of time before Miami made some big moves.
During the interview, Herro revealed that he anticipated the trade this summer.
I saw it coming. If any summer, it was going to be this summer, so I was anticipating this. And obviously not knowing Milwaukee, but I kind of figured I was going to get traded this summer. I’m excited and happy it’s Milwaukee.

Herro will have the opportunity to show his leadership skills in Milwaukee. The Bucks are in a transition period after trading their superstar Antetokounmpo. With a young squad around him, the University of Kentucky alum will look to make a name for himself in his new club.
