The NASCAR Cup Series race last Sunday at Atlanta Motor Speedway witnessed some wild moments and one of the was the controversial last lap move from Bubba Wallace that earned him punishment for yellow line infraction. His Toyota teammate Ty Gibbs played a key role in the chaos, as he nudged the No:23 Toyota from the back and cost him to lose control of the car.
The 23XI Racing driver was furious with the No:54 Toyota driver and confronted him post-race over the move that ruined his race. The Joe Gibbs Racing driver talked about the drama involving Wallace and admitted that that last lap was chaos for everyone involved, as all the racers were going all out looking for a solid finish.
Chaos. Obviously, looking for the best finish I could get for my team. And that was fun, just unfortunately didn’t get it.
Ty Gibbs said at Atlanta post-race.
He then talked about the confrontation and pointed out that he approached Bubba Wallace to apologize to him. But the TRD driver wasn’t in a good mood and he “disrespected” Ty Gibbs. The youngster asserted that he didn’t do anything wrong in the situation and was only looking to push the veteran racer to the win.

Yeah, I went to tell him I’m sorry because he cleared himself, and then unfortunately, he showed a lot of disrespect. I don’t know. Yeah, seems like it didn’t really work out for him, but I just tried to help him out there at the end, push him to win, but it didn’t happen.
Ty Gibbs added.
Wallace shared a different perspective of the interaction when talking to the media. He says Gibbs immediately went to defence when he was called out for the move and even blamed the No:23 car blocking him for the incident. The 23XI driver also took shot at all of his TRD teammates for being not so good while racing together.
We’ll be fine. He had the opportunity to give there a lot, and he didn’t do that. So, when I told him that, he quickly went on the defense and said, ‘Don’t block.’ When you hit me square in the bumper, it means you just ran right into me. The block was clean. So, yeah, that’s Toyota teammates. We don’t race very well together.
Bubba Wallace said about the confrontation.
Bubba Wallace is disappointed with his point table standing
In the same media interaction, Wallace also talked about the tough points position he found himself in. He is currently P13 in the table after the Atlanta P2 was taken away and has just 50+ points advantage on the driver at the cutline. So, he has to figure out a way to get back to finishing upfront soon.

That’s massive for us. Everybody behind us in points is like, ‘Oh, 23.’ They see that, and they’re licking their chops. The position that we’re in, we’re not safe. We need to figure out what we need to do moving forward because, again, I did not advance my position.
Bubba Wallace said.
23XI has the car to get him back on the victory lane. The thing they are lacking at the moment is solid execution, the one thing that helped Tyler Reddick to dominate the first half of the season. It would be interesting to see how the No:23 team will perform in the remaining six races of the regular season.
