When the Indiana Fever clashed with the Las Vegas Aces in their final road trip game, a moment between Chelsea Gray and Caitlin Clark brought up another round of negative discourse.
The two have never been at odds with each other. Rather, when the Fever guard was getting her feet wet with Team USA, Gray was one of those with whom she practiced a lot.
Clark has stated on several occasions that she admires the 33-year-old’s game. She also had some moments during that MVP run where the Aces guard gave Clark her flowers.
But all of that meant nothing when fans saw the Iowa native go down and take her time to catch her breath after a play. Replays showed that the four-time champion had used her elbow to create separation.
In doing so, Chelsea Gray rattled her Team USA understudy, causing Clark to lose her breath momentarily. Officials then called for the play to be reviewed for a potential act of malice.

That was enough to send the Fever guard’s fans into a spiral. Many felt that the Duke alum had played it dirty and lambasted her for doing so. However, that rhetoric soon reached a stage where it was becoming too much.
Gray revealed on social media that a fan had sent her a DM filled with racial abuse. Surprisingly, many on social media tracked down the said troll and made his profile public.

Front Office Sports received a statement from Hilton Grand Vacations that the said fan, who was their employee, was fired from his job as his behavior was in violation of company policies.
Fans laud employer for firing Chelsea Gray’s abuser
As soon as this news came out on social media, fans applauded Hilton Grand Vacations for taking a stand against their now-former employee.
They felt that he is solely responsible for his actions against Chelsea Gray, and he has to now face the consequences. Check out examples of those reactions below.

Using your government name while openly expressing racist views and doing it while working in corporate America was a bold choice.

The fan will likely never go after a player in that manner, and it could be a reminder for those who have been bullying WNBA stars on social media. After Alyssa Thomas talked about what she and her fiancé have faced, the focus has come back to what these players face. But this time, it seems that an unlikely source helped Chelsea Gray get justice.
Indiana Fever fans outed Chelsea Gray’s abuser
When Chelsea Gray first revealed the abuse she was getting after that game, many took shots at Indiana Fever fans for going after another WNBA player just because she happened to have had an incident with Caitlin Clark.

However, when social media dissected this fan’s page, they figured out that he was not an Indiana Fever fan. Rather, he was just a sports fan who happened to bet on Gray during this game and lost. Therefore, he was taking out his frustrations over that loss.
Surprisingly, it was Fever fans who found out about this fan, and particularly where he worked. They then notified Hilton Grand Vacations.

Much has been made about how Fever fans have brought negativity to the league. But in this instance, they proved that abuse can come from others as well.
