Sophie Cunningham has often talked about settling down in Indiana and owning a farm and a house in the future.

Ever since Sophie Cunningham joined the Indiana Fever, her popularity has been rising exponentially to the point where she now has more than 2.5 million followers on Instagram.
A minute until the end of the clash between the Fever and the Connecticut Sun on June 17th, 2025, the Missouri Tigers alum had just around 300,000 followers on the same profile.
In a couple of days after the game, that number shot past the one-million mark. Her pages on other platforms grew in the same manner, if not in the same quantity.
Those followers grew to the point that, before the June 22nd game against the Phoenix Mercury, she had around 1.5 million on IG. All of this led to increased brand associations, and it was revealed that Adidas was going to give Cunningham her own custom PE shoe a few days later.
Their decision to do that proved sensible, as after that heated game, her follower count jumped by another million, thanks to her finger-pointing taunt at DeWanna Bonner.
Such fan following generally indicates that those followers admire her. Sophie Cunningham took that to heart and wrote this on X with the view of getting support from her fans.
So how do we save our farm land and stop all these dumb data centers?

The 29-year-old was trying to gauge how much support she would get in her attempt to save her farmland back home in Missouri after it was taken over by data centers.
Sophie Cunningham does not get the support she wanted
Data centers taking over farmland and making the surrounding areas difficult for residents to access have become a controversial topic. But when Sophie Cunningham sought support for it, she faced pushback.
Fans commented that if she wanted to save farmland, the Fever guard should buy them and work them. Instead of asking for help, fans felt that she could do it herself.
Others pointed out that it was not a controversial topic, considering those who own the land have the power to keep data centers away. Check out examples of those reactions below.

Sophie these data centers are needed. If America isn’t doing it your children will be speaking Chinese one day and that’s if they are the “lucky” ones. Let’s work on their locations and not stopping them.

Don't do the politics thing, Sophie. Please stay in your lane.

First, educate yourself as to what it is before you damn "all" of anything. Remember that you typed this message on a phone or PC that used a data center. Now reassess.

I love you but educate yourself a bit more from a multitude of sources about data centers from a global perspective. Your comment was flippant and shows a lack of depth of knowledge. you can’t just watch Tik toks on the issue and jump on the uninformed bandwagon.

Stop using all social media and technology based platforms as those require data centers to operate

Easy! Buy the land from the farmers instead of the data centers

I feel you Sophie but we be complaining about internet stuff on the internet. Kinda makes us hypocrites 😭
— B-Lo Christ (@BLoLovesYou) July 16, 2026
Simple: Don’t sell your farmland to a data center developer.
— Ragsdale Wright (@Patrick53437) July 17, 2026
If you’re talking about other people’s farmland, it’s up to them.
Sophie Cunningham has a jovial side, with which she generally gets away with most things. Her fiery side has already made her millions of fans, but this was an example of how she cannot expect them to be blind to her every statement.
The 6’1″ guard has flirted with controversy before, but fans let it go. In this situation, they were not so forgiving, as they ensured she knew how to make a situation less controversial.
Sophie Cunningham keeps it a buck after Fever’s latest loss
Before Sophie Cunningham kicked up a hornets nest with this data center post, she and her Indiana Fever had suffered a bad loss at the hands of the Golden State Valkyries. When asked about it, she replied:

We just weren’t good enough tonight.
Sophie Cunningham said
With this answer, the veteran kept it a buck, making it clear that the entire team had no excuse for the poor performance they put up against the Valkyries.

Clark on the no-call in the 2Q when she came up limping:
“I got kneed right in the quad. … The ref can’t miss that.”
Added that the ref told her she “initiated the contact.” Said she’ll be fine moving forward. pic.twitter.com/a9MxGtUyuE
This was a clash of the best offensive team (Fever) against the best defensive team (Valkyries), and the latter won the clash. Sophie Cunningham made it clear that she and her teammates did not stick to what makes them tick, which is why they lost.
