Jannik Sinner won his fifth Grand Slam at the Wimbledon Championships after beating Alexander Zverev in four sets. The 24-year-old has had his vacation in Genoa, Italy, following his success in London. He’s expected to be back on the court at the Canadian Open, which starts next month.
Sinner has been criticized for being a straight-to-the-point type of player on the court. It is easy to predict what the Italian star will do on the court, but it’s hard to stop him from doing it. His arch-rival, Carlos Alcaraz, has a different style of play, which makes their matches allegedly very enjoyable.
But that has not made Sinner’s results any less than Alcaraz’s on tour. The World No.1 has been impressive on the court this year, winning five consecutive ATP Masters 1000 titles this year. He has won all the Masters titles played this season, and he’s likely to claim another at the Canadian Open in Montreal in August.
He has lost just one match in the five months on tour. Since arriving for the Indian Wells Open, Sinner has been a different player. His last match loss came against Juan Manuel Cerundolo in the second round of the French Open last month. Before that, he had three consecutive clay-court Masters titles.
At Wimbledon, he dropped just three sets en route to the title, beating top 10 players such as Zverev and Novak Djokovic. It was his second championship victory at the All England Club, making him the only Italian man to do so. In an interview with Ubitennis, Sinner revealed that he doesn’t want people to remember him for only his success on the court but rather for his values and personality:
Beyond the results I’ve achieved on the court, I’d like people to remember me for the kind of person I am and for the values my parents instilled in me . Maybe some will also remember me because they enjoyed watching my matches! When I play in Italy, the crowd always gives me great support, and I hope I can also convey joy and positive energy.
Sinner has dominated the men’s circuit in Alcaraz’s absence. The Spaniard has been away from the tour since April after suffering a wrist injury during his opening match at the Barcelona Open against Otto Virtanen. Alcaraz is expected to return to the court at the Cincinnati Open ahead of the US Open in New York.
Jannik Sinner admits he’s already preparing for the North American hard-court swing
Jannik Sinner was the favorite to win the Wimbledon Championships but was expected to have some tough moments. Under the humid conditions at the French Open, he lost in the second round, and London was going to experience the same conditions during the Grand Slam tournament.

But the World No.1 overcame the humid conditions, especially in the second week of the tournament. Overcoming the tough conditions has now given him fresh confidence on the court. During the aforementioned interview, he revealed that he has already begun preparations for the North American hard-court swing:
Together with my team, we are already preparing for this second part of the season and the return to hard courts. The first seven months flew by in a flash and we achieved excellent results . We are obviously very happy to have defended the title at Wimbledon, a truly special moment for all of us.
The last time Sinner played at the Canadian Open was in 2024. He didn’t feature at the Paris Olympics, so he took part in the ATP Masters 1000 tournament. The World No.1 lost to Andrey Rublev in the quarter-finals but went on to win the Cincinnati Open and the US Open excellently.
