NASCAR has always been known for its long races, with the fans having mixed feelings about cars racing each other on the oval for more than three hours. There have been some motorsports personalities that has called out for change and one such comments from Scott Dixon has gotten the fans’ attention, as the that of reigning champion Kyle Larson.
The six-time IndyCar champion was asked about the length of NASCAR races at Nashville Superspeedway and he gave a candid answer. The veteran racer, who has close ties in the Cup garage, admitted that the races are too long for his liking. He has a point considering an average F1 race is 1.5 hours and an IndyCar race is 1.5 to 2 hours.
I don’t know. I find it really hard to watch Cup races these days … It allows for a nap so maybe that’s good.
Scott Dixon said recently.
The reigning Cup Series champion Kyle Larson was asked about the comments ahead of the Brickyard 400 and he admitted that the open wheel racing legend has some point. He admitted that the consumption pattern of the race fans has changed and NASCAR might need to change as well by shortening its races which are too long.
Well, I’ll start off by saying yes, I agree that a lot of our Cup races are too long. I just think that’s the way the world has kind of gone and how people consume sports. I definitely think our races are too long. I think three hours is too long. So yeah. But as far as a nap, I don’t know… So, it doesn’t really bother me, but I agree with what he was saying.
Kyle Larson responded, as reported by motorsport.com.
Kyle Larson breaks silence on Alex Bowman’s retirement
On his media session ahead of the race at Indy, Larson also talked about his teammate Alex Bowman’s announcement that he would retire in 2027, at the age of just 34. He highlighted how blessed he was to have the No:48 driver as his teammate, considering he always supported him on and off the track, making him a better racer.

Yeah, he’s been an amazing teammate, probably the best teammate you could ask for. I’ve really enjoyed my time with him. He’s made us all better. I really enjoyed having him around the debriefs and all that because he brings a dry sense of humor that we all enjoy. He can drive the heck out of racecars, so he brings a lot to the race team.
Kyle Larson said.
That’s why he is happy to see the veteran going out on his terms unlike driver who were forced to retire. He highlighted how injuries have put the veteran in a tough spot in the Next-Gen era. Like many he is excited to see what the future has for the Chevy driver beyond NASCAR.
I’m happy that he’s able to do it on his own terms. I think he’s had his injuries and stuff throughout his career that easily he could have just quit probably on the spot, but to now get to have a runway out is good. I’m happy for him. He’s got a lot going on in his life with building a family, a home and all the things. So, yeah, it’s good for him.
Kyle Larson added.
The comments from the veteran shows how much he loved racing alongside Bowman, who for many in the garage was one of the most respectful racers on the garage. It would be interesting to see how the other drivers will respond to the announcement and how the reminder of the season would playout for the No:48 team.
