The New York Mets suffered another blow on Friday. During their game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, 5-time All-Star Juan Soto was forced to leave the game due to left calf soreness. Fans on social media were left upset with this development.

The 2026 season has not gone the way many anticipated. After missing the playoffs on the final day of last season, the Mets were hoping this year to be the one they bounce back.

The team has, however, struggled once again. With injuries to key players, they have been in another slump and currently have an interim manager in Andy Green following the sacking of Carlos Mendoza.

Since Green took over, the team was 9-13 before the showdown against the Dodgers on Friday. Soto returned to the lineup after sitting out in the series finale against the Milwaukee Brewers.

As per reports, he had been dealing with a nagging pain in the left calf since the first game back from the All-Star break. He was removed from the game in the 8th inning against the Philadelphia Phillies. After resting on Wednesday, the team had a day off on Thursday. This gave him 2 days of rest.

His return, however, lasted just 2 plate appearances. In the 6th inning, he was removed from the game, leaving the fans at Citi Field concerned.

The team later announced that he was removed from the game due to soreness in the left calf.

The Mets went on to lose 4-2 in the series opener and were left with a 43-61 record, 18 games below .500. Now the team could be without Soto for a while. The outfielder will undergo an MRI scan on Saturday and could be on his way back on the injured list.

In April, Soto was placed on the 10-day injured list and missed 15 games due to a right calf issue. In June, he experienced some back soreness.

After signing the $765 million deal in December, the Mets were viewed as one of the favorites to win the World Series in 2025. Soto even had a career high in home runs at 43.

Despite that, the team suffered a dramatic collapse. Their three-and-a-half-month slump saw them miss the postseason on the final day following a 4-0 loss against the Miami Marlins.

This season, the team had been on a slump since the start. In April, they went on a huge losing run, and in late June, Mendoza was sacked as the manager.

In 84 games this season, Soto has smashed 21 home runs and 52 RBIs while batting with a .283 average. Among the qualified batters, he leads in several categories and has been the talisman of the team.

It now remains to be seen what his MRI scans reveal. Following this series against the Dodgers, the Mets will host the Atlanta Braves and the Miami Marlins before traveling to take on the Cleveland Guardians.
