The San Francisco Giants are suspending the payment of Harrison Bader. President of Baseball Operations Buster Posey announced this decision on Friday as the team continues to investigate the case involving his scooter accident, which left his already injured leg even more damaged.
The outfielder had been out of action since late May. He suffered from plantar fasciitis in his left leg and was placed on the 10-day injured list.
Last Sunday, Bader was involved in a scooter accident. According to reports, the incident occurred around 2 a.m. near the Balboa Cafe at Greenwich and Fillmore streets in San Francisco.
The 32-year-old’s scooter crashed into the back of a San Francisco Fire Department truck. His leg was further damaged as the wheel of the truck rolled over it.

Bader was scheduled to meet a specialist on Tuesday regarding this existing foot injury. This accident changed the nature of his evaluation.
The Giants are now suspending his payment. As per Posey, the NL West will not pay him any money until he is able to resume baseball activities with the club.
Over the weekend, Harrison Bader was involved in an accident that has delayed Harrison’s prior treatment timeline for plantar fasciitis and, unfortunately, his return to the field. We are still investigating the circumstances of the accident, but will be suspending payment to Harrison until he is able to resume performing services for the Club.

Earlier this year, Bader signed a 2-year, $20.5 million deal with the Giants. He has, however, been limited to just 30 games this year. During this time, he has a .170 batting average, 5 home runs, and 14 RBIs.
Social media reacts to Giants suspending the pay of Harrison Bader
The San Francisco Giants are taking a huge step against Harrison Bader. The club will not pay the outfielder until he can get back to baseball action after he was involved in a crash that aggravated his injury. Fans on social media were left divided by this development.

While many supported the team’s decision, some questioned it. A few of them took shots at Bader for this behavior, while some fans criticized the club. Check out some of the reactions from X regarding this incident below:
What a foolish unforced error.

Costing yourself that much money for riding a scooter while injured is certainly a choice.
Whaaaat?? They can actually do that?
— Colleen ⚾️ 🅱️ (@QuiltedSox) August 1, 2026
How absolutely blasted do you have to be to hit a fire truck on a scooter?
— JoeFromCT (@3rdDegreeBerns) August 1, 2026
You make it to the big leagues and don’t take it seriously?! If he were serious, he wouldn’t be out until 2 and wouldn’t be riding a scooter.
— Ryan N Reality (@RyanNReality) August 1, 2026
That’s ridiculous. They’re a multi-million dollar organization. Pay the man.
— OneNOnly (@DiRicoSuave) August 1, 2026
Embarrassing organization. Giants penny pinching while the Dodgers continue to pay for the medical and mental health services of former player Andrew Toles all these years later. Giants should be ashamed!

Is this even legal
— Parker B (@raysnbolts) August 1, 2026
Players Association not gonna let this happen.
— Davey the Chin (@dgigante) August 1, 2026
That is not the message you want to send to players.

Bader brought all this upon himself & now must deal with the consequences

Giants did right thing by suspending his payments – especially since Bader is refusing to cooperate with the investigation
Surely MLBPA realizes defending Bader says they condone his actions
This is not the first time Bader had been involved in a scooter accident. During his sophomore year in 2014, he was suspended for 19 games at the University of Florida following another late-night crash.
Giants were not counting on Harrison Bader to return this season
Harrison Bader had been sidelined since May 29 following an injury in the left leg. While the scooter accident has aggravated his injury, the San Francisco Giants were reportedly not counting on him to return this season.

Though the team had not said that he was ruled out for the season, manager Tony Vitello on Thursday said that there would have been a “long shot” for the player to return this year even before the accident.
I think that would have been a long shot to begin with.
Tony Vitello told the reporters regarding Harrison Bader
Vitello: Harrison Bader (foot) won't return this season.

Speaking of the Giants, the 2026 season has been another disappointing one for them. On Friday, they lost 7-0 against the San Diego Padres and fell to a 47-63 record, 16 games below .500.
