Jannik Sinner loves cars and owns quite a few luxury ones. He is not in action at the moment because he chose to prioritize his health instead of chasing records, perhaps to avoid a repeat of his French Open fate (lost in the second round due to physical setbacks).

Sinner is enjoying a much-needed downtime away from the courts after months of non-stop tennis. And in Monaco, where he lives, he was seen driving the rare Ferrari 812 Competizione. Sinner was also spotted riding a scooter with his girlfriend, Laila Hasanovic, in Monaco.

But after his Wimbledon title defense (he defeated Alexander Zverev in the final), the 24-year-old confessed that he failed his motorbike license four times, joking, “It’s the fourth time. Maybe it’s better if I play tennis.” And now, Celine Gazzotti, the driving instructor of Sinner, during an interview with DiPiu, revealed why Sinner failed the test.

After passing the theory test, we’ll prepare for the practical and driving tests, which are particularly complex here in Monaco. He has always tried to prepare for the exam on his own. Before coming to me, he was enrolled in another driving school, but they didn’t hold theory lessons in the classroom. He always took the exam studying privately. And I think that’s why he always failed four times.

After the theory exam, Sinner has to pass the practical test. And in the practical test, the World No.1, in a closed circuit and at a low speed, has to navigate a slalom course, a figure-eight course, avoiding every obstacle.

He’ll take his next exam after taking my lessons. I’m not sure he’ll pass, but by studying with me, he’ll certainly have a better chance. I’d be disappointed if he failed a fifth time… The first exam, the one Jannik failed four times, consisted of 40 multiple-choice questions on the Highway Code. To pass, a maximum of five errors are allowed.

And as a last test, Sinner will have to ride a powerful Kawasaki road bike with a 650 cubic centimeter engine.

Felix Auger-Aliassime on Jannik Sinner and other top players’ withdrawal from the Canadian Open

Felix Auger-Aliassime will be expecting the backing of the majority of the crowd in Montreal as he competes as the home favorite. The Canadian Open, however, will be without other top players such as Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, and Novak Djokovic.

Alcaraz withdrew because he was nursing a wrist injury. Djokovic hasn’t come to Canada to compete since his third-round exit back in 2018. But Sinner’s decision was questioned as he had the chance to bid for the Golden Masters, having won titles in Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo, Madrid, and Rome.

Auger-Aliassime, at the pre-tournament press conference, shared his take on what can be done to protect both the players and the tournaments.

I’ve often talked about this, and right now there are many discussions with the ATP and organizers to understand what can be done. Several ideas are on the table to find a balance between the need to protect players and the need to protect the tournaments as well. One of the proposals would be to prevent players from missing the same tournament for two consecutive years.

Auger-Aliassime will kick off his campaign against Titouan Droguet. He is chasing his second title of the season, following his win at the Open Sud de France.

The 25-year-old also played the final of the Rotterdam Open, only to lose to Alex de Minaur. Before arriving in Montreal, Auger-Aliassime lost a thrilling quarterfinal to Djokovic at Wimbledon. It was Wimbledon’s longest quarterfinal, ending after 5 hours and 15 minutes.
