The Philadelphia 76ers have put all their eggs into one basket after acquiring Jaylen Brown and LeBron James in the summer. The two former champions join forces with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey, and now have the most star-studded squad in the league led by head coach Nick Nurse, who is a former champion as well.

The expectations surrounding the 76ers are higher than ever after their promising offseason. Many believe that they finally have the firepower and the tools to go all the way next season after struggling to make a deep postseason run in over two decades.

Brown was formally introduced for the first time since his move to the 76ers on Thursday. With so many stars on the team, the five-time All-Star spoke about adjusting his game depending on the opponents, and his sole focus is on winning the championship.

My focus is winning. My focus going into every practice, every meeting, every shootaround, every film session is like, ’How do we win night in and night out?’ Sometimes that may change, sometimes it may look different, but whatever it takes. At this point in my career, nothing else really moves me. I don’t care about MVP and Finals MVP awards. Whatever it takes on a night to night basis.

Brown is coming off his best individual campaign and finished sixth in the MVP race. He was also one of the best two-way players in the league last season as he led the Boston Celtics to a second-place finish in the Eastern Conference standings. Despite his impressive performances, the Celtics shipped him away to the 76ers in a blockbuster trade.

The move left Brown surprised as well, but it looks like he is ready to embark on a new journey in Philly with his new teammates. However, the former champion is not looking to win any individual awards and has set his focus on lifting the title at the end of next season.

Jaylen Brown on who will be the leader of the 76ers next season

The 76ers have struggled whenever the stakes have gotten high in the postseason. But with James and Jaylen Brown bringing in some leadership and vital playoff experience, the 76ers have to win a championship in the next two years, as James signed with them on a two-year deal.

Given the big names on the team as presently constructed, Brown was asked who will be the leader of the team moving forward. He said:

To be honest, it doesn’t have to be anybody’s team. It just needs to be based on respect and work. That’s kind of my approach. I want to earn everybody’s respect and trust, which takes time. Obviously, it’s a lot of guys with talent and some egos. But to win, you got to be able to sacrifice. You got to be able to have trust and communication. So I want to come in transparent.

The 76ers have four players who can score at will and take over a game on any given night. But based on reports, it is expected that James will be playing more as a point guard and will be focused on playmaking and orchestrating the team’s offense.

Jaylen Brown sets realistic expectations for the 76ers heading forward

On paper, it is hard to argue that there is another team with more talent and scoring options than the 76ers in the league. They may possess the most dominant starting lineup at the moment. Therefore, it is no surprise that the expectations are sky-high.

During the press conference, Brown did not get carried away by the team’s star power and remained grounded in reality.

Obviously, on paper, we’re excellent. We have a lot of talent compared to other teams in the league, but I’ve been around a long time to know that just what you have on paper doesn’t really mean nothing. It can, if you put the work in. But it also, if you allow distractions, if you allow media to get in your locker room, if you allow certain things, and the personalities don’t work, it can be a detriment. I am aware that it could go either way.

Health and internal factors are the biggest challenges the 76ers face heading into the 2026-27 campaign. They have multiple scoring options, playoff experience, and high-IQ players needed to lift their first championship since 1983.
