After 10 years after being drafted as the third pick in the 2016 NBA draft, Jaylen Brown‘s time with the Boston Celtics has come to an end. Over the past week, there have been reports of the Celtics looking to trade Brown even after their failed move for Giannis Antetokounmpo.
It is the second time in four years that the Celtics have looked to ship away their star player. They failed in 2022 when they were looking to sign Kevin Durant and once again last week. However, in the end, they traded away Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers.
NBA insider Shams Charania was the first to report about Brown’s trade to the 76ers on Wednesday.

It has been a difficult week for Jaylen Brown. A couple of months ago, he reiterated his love for Boston and was committed to playing for the club for the next 10 years if it was up to him. Unfortunately, he finds himself in a new environment after a stellar 2025-26 campaign.
Brown stayed silent when it was reported that the Celtics included him in a trade package for Antetokounmpo. While the Greek star ended up getting traded to the Miami Heat, many believed that Brown’s relationship with the Celtics was never going to be the same. Hence, it was just a matter of time before they traded away the former Finals MVP.
Fans react to Jaylen Brown getting traded to the 76ers for Paul George
The trade is a huge win for the 76ers. Acquiring a player like Jaylen Brown in his prime is a sign that they are going all in next season. They had to give up Paul George and a few picks. While George can play at high level, he is on the decline at 35 years old.
Following the trade, fans were caught buzzing across social media.

The Raptors got more for Kawhi than the Celtics did for Brown in his prime. Insane times we’re in.

The move has baffled several fans. Many believe that the Celtics are the losers after the trade, as they gave up their best player for a few picks and a player well past his prime.
Jaylen Brown never requested to be traded
Jaylen Brown and the Celtics had a lot of success together. The Celtics won their first championship in 16 years in 2024 with Brown winning the Finals MVP. In what was his best season in terms of numbers, Brown averaged 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists in 71 appearances.

When speaking about the trade, Shams Charania revealed that Brown never requested for a trade.
My understanding is Jaylen Brown, throughout all of this, never requested a trade. He never asked out of Boston. This was all the Celtics. We’ll learn more. This is obviously a very developing story, but Jalen Brown is leaving the Boston Celtics.

With Brown on the roster, the 76ers will be expected to be one of the favorites to come out of the East next season. Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see what other moves the Celtics pull off in the offseason.
