Defending Cup Series champion Kyle Larson had a tough outing in the Iowa Corn 350, after getting into a crash involving teammate Alex Bowman. But he redeemed himself with an impressive win on Monday night. He ran the Osky Challenge at Southern Iowa Speedway and ended the day with a threepeat.

His win in the main event, the A-feature race featuring the likes of Corey Day and Kasey Kahne was controversial. The veteran won by pulling of an aggressive pass on leader Ryan Timms, making contact and damaging rivals’ car. The incident happened with just five laps left in the race and a bent nose wing was slowed down him enough to drop to P3.

The racer didn’t hold back on the two times Cup champion and called out on his post-race media session, with profanity laced comments. This came soon after they had heated back and forth on the victory lane. He accused Larson off running him over deliberately to gain an advantage. His team owner though crossed the limit, as he used racing slurs targeting the HMS driver, who is half Japanese.

I seen him coming up. Initially, I was going to try and drive around it. And I realized he wasn’t letting me, giving me any room. And I mean, I lifted, slammed on the brakes, tried to turn it, and he still just ran right over me… So, he’s a piece of ****, but it is what it is. I mean, I’ll remember it, and that’s that.

Ryan Timms said post-race.

Kyle Larson responded to the rant by the driver and the team owner on his post-race media session. He highlighted how Timms needs to blame himself for the losing the lead, as it his mistake in the last laps that cost him. The Chevy driver them mocked the team owner over the racist slur, calling him out for not even getting his race right, a perfect response to ignorant people.

He was getting nervous in one and two, and started making mistakes. I’m sure it wasn’t the cleanest move. I’m sure if anyone has followed his career he’s made a lot of mistakes as well. His car owner is upset at me, which is fine, but at least get my race right. I’m not Chinese, I’m Japanese.

Kyle Larson told Matt Waever.

Kyle Larson doesn’t regret his aggressive moves

Further talking about the controversial move, he asserted that he was committed to overtaking Timm on the last laps and if he had bailed after making the dive, the resulting wreck would’ve ruined the race for both. He knows it might’ve been better if he had made the move without damaging rival’s car.

But yeah, I mean, once you’re kind of committed, you’re committed. If I bail at all, I’m probably going to hit him in the left rear, which is not good too, so… Or obviously a lot worse, so… Yeah, I mean, I wish I would have made the pass clean and not gotten into his front bumper, front nose wing.

Kyle Larson said.

It was unfortunate that Timm got into his back bumper in the moment, but insisted that at the end of day he had few opportunities left to make an overtake with the white flag approaching. At the end of the day, Larson being racer hungry foe wins saw the gap and went for it as he should.

I haven’t seen it, but I’ve seen his nose wing collapse on him, and I’m guessing he got into my rear bumper.  So yeah, that’s unfortunate, but I knew we were coming down to the end. I didn’t know when the white flag was coming, and I didn’t know how many more opportunities I had.

Kyle Larson added.

The comments from the NASCAR champion are rational at the same time, he could’ve given Timm a break with the post-race comments as at the end of the day, the clash was not his mistake and it cost him the race. It would be interesting to see if the sanctioning body going to penalize the team owner over the insensitive comments.
