Both LeBron James and Klay Thompson have seen it all during their time in the NBA. James was drafted in 2003, while Thompson joined the NBA in 2011.

James has cemented himself as one of, if not the, greatest players of all time and is widely regarded for his longevity, sustained excellence, and record-breaking. Meanwhile, Thompson may not be in the same tier as James, but he is considered one of the greatest shooters of all time and was one of the best two-way players in the league in his prime.

Both stars have faced each other several times in the past. They have clashed five times in the playoffs, including four times in the NBA Finals.

On a live stream with PlaqueBoyMax, the streamer asked Thompson who the hardest player he has ever guarded in his career is. The former champion was quick to name James.

We saw him for 4 straight Finals, and I haven’t seen anyone control the game as well as he does. He can do everything on the court. He has no weaknesses. He was the toughest opponent I ever faced. No question.

The five-time All-Star has heaped praise on the King in the past. Thompson knows what it takes to guard LeBron James as he has guarded the best player on the opposing team for the majority of his career during his time with the Golden State Warriors. While James did get the better of him more often than not, Thompson did make it tough for him at times.

LeBron James and Klay Thompson have gone head-to-head in important moments of their careers

James and Klay Thompson have both won four championships each. The 41-year-old played for the Cleveland Cavaliers when he faced Thompson and the Warriors in four consecutive NBA Finals.

Thompson came out on top in three of the four Finals as the Warriors won in 2015, 2017, and 2018. However, James won the 2016 title. The 2016 championship was the first and only championship the Cavs have ever won, and it also became the most important title of James’ career.

One of the main reasons it was a historic championship is that James and the Cavs pulled off a mammoth 3-1 comeback in the Finals. No other team has ever accomplished such a feat in NBA history, and it became a legacy-defining moment for the All-Time leading scorer.

Thompson and James’ most recent playoff clash was in the Western Conference Semifinals in 2023. It was James who had the final laugh as the Los Angeles Lakers came out on top in six games. However, Thompson leads 3-2 in their head-to-head in the playoffs.

Klay Thompson on Russell Westbrook’s retirement

Russell Westbrook announced his retirement a couple of days ago after completing 18 years in the NBA. The nine-time All-Star was one of the best players of his generation and is considered by many as the most athletic point guard the game has ever seen. While he received criticism for his style of play, it never affected his energy on the court, and the achievements speak for themselves.

During the live stream, Thompson paid a small tribute to the former MVP.

Seeing Russ hang it up kind of made me a little emotional because we had so many great battles, and he’s one of the greatest players of our generation.

Westbrook saw a steady decline in his career and struggled to find a suitor after last season. Thompson finds himself in a similar place after coming off the bench for the Dallas Mavericks for the first time in his career.

A few teams have shown interest in him as the Mavs are open to trading him away. The Lakers have been linked to him over the last few days. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Thompson.
