With just a few games remaining in the regular season, there is no doubt that rookie Olivia Miles and her Minnesota Lynx teammates have one hand firmly on the top seed.
However, many felt the team would take a back seat after superstar forward Napheesa Collier was ruled out for most of the games due to ankle surgery. The departure of a few key contributors to their 2024 run to the NBA Finals, and other teams getting significantly stronger over the offseason.
Lo and behold, none of those doubters took into account that Cheryl Reeve is still one of the best head coaches in the league and knows better than many how to bring in players who can execute her game plans effectively.
Miles basically fell into their lap after the Dallas Wings decided that reuniting Azzi Fudd with Paige Bueckers was better for their long-term plans. That decision is looking foolish at the moment, as the couple’s team is struggling, with no chance of catching the Lynx.
Olivia Miles is the MVP of the WNBA… We don’t like to give MVP to young players, and I think we got to get rid of that mindset because she is your MVP in the WNBA right now.

The radio host took this rare TV opportunity to suggest that even before Collier returned from her injury, Miles was the reason the Lynx became the best team in the league. That should be enough to argue her case for being awarded the league’s Most Valuable Player trophy.
Fans question radio analyst Olivia Miles’ MVP logic with facts
When this clip reached social media, fans who had already watched this segment instantly reacted with questions about how this analyst came to this conclusion.
For starters, they pointed out that Olivia Miles’ individual stats are not close to those of other MVP frontrunners such as perennial MVP A’ja Wilson, Fever duo Kelsey Mitchell, and Caitlin Clark.
Then they pointed out how the Minnesota Lynx have proved that they can continue to dominate without the TCU alum. Therefore, they felt that her value is not as high as this radio analyst claims it is. Check out examples of those reactions below.
She has the best team, without Miles they are still a top 4 team. Without clark indiana isnt in the playoffs. Same with Beuckers. Cant be said for Miles.

Man she’s on one of the best teams on the league stop this nonsense. Clark got better numbers & made the fever relevant again

She plays on a stacked team allowing her wide open looks and other teams can hardly double team her bc of it that’s not an MVP in my eyes.

Miles: 8th in scoring, 7th in assists.
— AllStan_WNBA (@AllStan_WNBA) August 17, 2026
CC: 3rd in scoring, 1st in assists.
Would Lynx be where they are without Miles? Their record last season: 34-10.
Would Fever be where they are without Caitlin? Or Kelsey Mitchell? Record last season: 24-20. CC only played 13 games.…
Drafted to the best team in the league. Defense doesn’t focus on her. Good player but not the go to.

She's the runaway MVP if they go by "it's the best team" and she's putting up good numbers. Superficial weak analysis, not very deep, and not too much contrasting with other players.

Over A'ja??? Man y'all just be talking
— Coach Irv (@CoachIrvinPayne) August 18, 2026
Nooo. Yes, Olivia Miles is amazing, and she'll have her moment once she settles in, but MVP is clearly a toss-up between Caitlin Clark and A'ja Wilson at this point.

There is no doubt that Olivia Miles’ addition has allowed the Minnesota Lynx to deploy a game plan where their best players do not have to worry about creating team offense. The point guard dictates the flow, and the rest follow. That does scream value, but when compared to how important the likes of those in the MVP race currently are, she has some catching up to do.
Olivia Miles is a clear front-runner for the Rookie of the Year award
Over the last four seasons, the No. 1 overall pick that year has gone on to win the Rookie of the Year award. This year, that is about to change since Olivia Miles is heading her fellow draft-class women in this race.

She went No. 2 overall to the Lynx, which means she will be the first since Michaela Onyenwere received the award in 2021 as a sixth-overall pick. The New Jersey native has no competition at the moment, unless something untoward happens.
Even if that happens, fellow rookie starters Azzi Fudd, Flau’jae Johnson, and others have to work a lot harder if they want to catch up and win this trophy. Miles is playing at an unbelievable level for a rookie and has proved that true point guards can dominate.
