Michael Jordan and LeBron James are forever interlinked when it comes to NBA history. A long-running debate between the two icons is who the GOAT is. Both players have made strong cases for themselves during their careers.

Jordan has often been seen as the epitome of basketball. Drafted by the Chicago Bulls as the third pick in the 1984 NBA draft, Jordan has won every individual accolade in the league and is undefeated in six NBA Finals. He is regarded for his killer instinct, hyper-competitiveness, and for globalizing the NBA.

Meanwhile, James has broken almost every statistical record in the league through his longevity and sustained greatness. He has won a championship for three different teams and will be looking to become the first player ever to lift a title with four different teams.

Scottie Pippen was drafted by the Bulls in 1987 and shared the locker room with Jordan for 10 seasons. Together, they turned the Bulls into a dynasty, winning six championships in eight years.

However, Pippen has been guilty of constantly changing his stance on the GOAT debate. James’ former teammate, Carmelo Anthony, called out the Bulls legend for his stance on the two icons.

You can’t keep going, ‘MJ’s the GOAT this day, and LeBron’s the GOAT better than MJ this day.’ Then, six years later, it’s, ‘You know what, f*ck both of them. Magic is the GOAT. That means you don’t really f–k with MJ. Say all that for all them years. We know that was bulls–t.

Scottie Pippen is one of the most decorated players in NBA history. While he and Jordan went through it all during their time with the Bulls, reports say they didn’t have a good relationship off the court.

In Jordan’s documentary “The Last Dance”, Jordan felt betrayed when Pippen did not reach out to him after his father’s death. Their relationship was further strained when Jordan’s son had a relationship with Pippen’s ex-wife. The five-time MVP regretted having a broken relationship with Pippen.

Hence, it is not surprising to see Pippen not name Jordan as the GOAT. But despite naming James as the GOAT in the past, he has been critical of the four-time champion as well and named Magic Johnson as the GOAT not so long ago.

Therefore, Carmelo Anthony expressed his outrage over it and implored the former do-it-all forward to cut out all the nonsense. While Pippen may have every right to change his opinion, his ever-changing choice suggests it may have to do with something more than on-court performance for him.

Scottie Pippen put himself over LeBron James

LeBron James has already established himself as one of the, if not the, greatest players of all time. However, unlike Michael Jordan, he is still not done playing. After impressing in his 23rd season, the King signed a two-year deal with the Philadelphia 76ers.

While James is looking to win a championship on his fourth different team and his fifth overall, Pippen put himself over James and criticized him for his move.

I have six rings…. You want individual accolades or championships? Because I didn’t chase mine.

James has been criticized for his move to Philly, which has been labeled “ring chasing.” However, it is still a challenge as the franchise has not won a championship since 1983.

Scottie Pippen would draft Michael Jordan as the first pick when it comes to All-Time players

For the career he has had, it is surprising that Jordan was not drafted as a number one pick. There is no doubt that he is the greatest player of all time who was not the number one pick. Meanwhile, James was drafted first overall in 2003.

When asked who would be his first pick when it came to all-time players, Pippen said:

In today’s era player, I’ll take Wembanyama. I’d develop him. Do all-time? Then I’m gonna pick my era. I’m gonna pick the team that won six titles. I’m gonna pick Michael.

Pippen chose his former teammate as the number one pick and himself as the second pick. It is unfortunate they don’t share a good relationship after all these years.
