Giancarlo Stanton just cannot catch a break. Just as he was getting ready to return, he suffered another injury setback. In the midst of this, an MLB insider believes that the New York Yankees star still has more in his tank.

Stanton has been out of action since late April. In a game against the Houston Astros, the designated hitter (DH) suffered some tightness in his calf. It was later revealed that he had strained his calf and would be out for some time.

In June, he suffered a setback as he had a tweak while running around the bases during a practice session. In July, manager Aaron Boone did admit to being surprised by the time it was taking for him to heal and return.

Two weeks ago, he was seen running again. In a video, he was seen circling the bases at top speed, leading to some fans mocking him.

On Saturday, the veteran suffered another blow. As per reports from Bryan Hoch, he fell down and injured his other calf while running.

The absence of Stanton is a big blow to the offense of the Yankees. The team is still without him and captain Aaron Judge, two of the top names of the current Yankees generation.

On Monday, MLB insider Brandon Kuty opened up about Stanton. While speaking on the Foul Territory podcast, the insider believes that the 5-time All-Star still has something in his tank.

He’s someone who thinks that he’s got more in the tank, right? He wouldn’t be out here trying to get back on the field if he didn’t think he could get back on the field, if he didn’t want to get back on the field. He’s got a lot to play for.

Brandon Kuty said regarding Giancarlo Stanton

Kuty also pointed out that Stanton still had 1 more year left on his deal and that he was close to 500 home runs.

He also just is 40 home runs shy of 500. I mean, he’s got a lot to play for. There’s still one more year left on his deal. And if I’m Giancarlo Stanton, I try to keep playing.

Brandon Kuty added

The 36-year-old is the active home run leader with 456. He needs 44 more to reach the 500 home run club. For this, he needs to be healthy first.

Giancarlo Stanton has not played a full season in New York since 2018

There was huge excitement in the New York Yankees clubhouse when they landed Giancarlo Stanton through a trade from the Miami Marlins in December 2017. While the slugger has delivered some big moments, he has not played a full season in New York since 2018.

In his first season in the Bronx, he smashed 38 home runs and had 100 RBIs in 158 games. In 2019, he first suffered a bicep strain in April and then a knee injury in June. He finished that season with just 18 appearances and 3 home runs.

In the COVID-19-shortened season in 2020, he was limited to just 23 games due to a hamstring injury in August. Then in 2021, he had a strain in his quad and was placed on the 10-day injured list.

The injuries did not stop for him. 2022 season saw him play 110 games as he dealt with some trouble in his ankles, Achilles, and foot. In 2023, he suffered a left hamstring strain and missed 6 weeks of action. In 2024, he had the same injury and another hamstring strain.

Last season, he had trouble with his elbows. He was unable to even open a pack of chips with his injury and played in just 77 games.

This year, he has appeared in just 24 games. Before getting injured, he was batting .256 with 3 home runs and 14 RBIs. As per insider Ken Rosenthal, he could be done for the season.

In his time with the Yankees, Stanton has been an All-Star Game MVP, an ALCS MVP, and played a huge part in the team’s run to the 2024 World Series. However, out of his 9 seasons so far in New York, only once has he managed to stay fit from start to finish.
